  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Think I'll sit down here for a bit... (6)

** get in a recycling program -- there are some groups that provide everything and then pay the church or school for the paper collected (locally at least for me)

** create a mailbox system at church (saves postage and the carbon emissions from the mail truck) for newsletters and such

** switch to the energy saving lightbulbs

** adjust the temp on all the thermostats -- and turn them higher/lower during the week when no one is there

** low flow toilets or a brick in the upper tank to lower the water usage

I'm here for like 5 minutes before I go warm up the truck to take my daughter to school.

Then later this morning I have a meeting at church to try to make the church more "green". Anyone have any suggestions? We're trying to get committees to use real cups and plates during meetings instead of the styrofoam things that clog landfills. Can you think of other things we can do to help our environment?

Thanks, dinkime, we're doing most of those already...except the lightbulbs and the mailbox thing.

Some of the ideas we came up with are to utilize our dishes more in the kitchen and do away with paper and plastic as much as we can although we realize we can't totally do away with those things. We're going to help people learn how to work the dishwasher since it's someone intimidating to a lot of our members.

We're basically starting in the kitchen and building from there. Baby steps :)

I love Highlander Grogg. It's from the great state of WI...Door County, to be exact. I suppose the beans were grown somewhere else. ^_^
Good morning seajoy! I think you are right- I don't hear too much about the coffee crops in WI!

Oh the weather is so nice- finally up in the 40's and melting the snow! I even saw some of my spring bulbs peeking through the dirt, up by the house. Woo hoo- spring IS coming!

Finally, spring. Isn't it a relief?

what's wrong with winter? I am already looking forward to Christmas :)
Yeah, let's see, did you say you were from somewhere in the northern part of the world? We've had waaaay more winter than we are used to- even for Iowa! ;) In fact- I wouldn't mind a brown Christmas this year!

Indeed...our balmy 34 degrees was a welcome change. I live too far north for my fibro. It's acting up in this damp air. Goodness, I sound like I'm 90! :| Some days it stinks to be me.
