Back from the Lake. Got too much sun. My "problem" is that I don't burn when I get too much sun, I instead break out in a red-dot rash, so I'm covered in hydrocortisone cream right now. It will be better tomorrow.

Found out that an LCMS Lutheran church near where my in-laws live is hosting a benefit and silent auction for my nephew this fall. He has mosaic downs syndrome and his main delay is speech. He'll be 6 next month, and can't say more than a couple of words. The school district and insurance has given his family the run-around on getting an electronic communicator. A friend of the family got her church involved. The family is Methodist, btw.

That's why I love it out there. Even the little country churches help out each other. Apparently one of the members works for the Cardinals and they are donating stuff for the auction. I think they just need to raise enough for half the cost, and one of the LCMS foundations will match it.

QA--Relay for Life went well. They raised $95,000, last I heard. Weather was great--humid & misty, but it wasn't too hot and it didn't rain. Relay's done, time to bring on the motorcycles. ABATE rally's this week.

I knew some folks back home who were ABATE members. It's a great organization. They do a lot of charity work for children.

My former Pastor's oldest daughter was on What Not to Wear last year. She says she had a blast but that at the time, it's very very emotional. She's incorporated much of what they taught her but has thrown out some of the other things. Which is what I'd probably do.

ABATE does several charity fundraisers around here every year. They teach motorcycle safety classes too. But this is their annual big party. They had 11,000 last year. We call it mini-Sturgis. We usually don't have too many problems other than traffic. But the bridge in the biggest traffic area is under construction, so I'm praying about that. I work in public safety, so I think about accidents, ambulances and storms a lot. I take the 911 calls and send out the troops.

Well, it's the closest thing I could find.
My dress is really navy blue, and I'm about 5' tall, and a little on plump side, so my character is a bit deceiving. Yesterday, I found out that 5' is really stretching things, though. We were working at my son's apartment, and his 6' 6" best man, decided it would be real funny to find out just how "short" I really am. Well, he measured me at 4' 11".....so it's even worse than I expected! That makes my husband 16" taller than me!

Anyway, I was there the day that the bride picked out her dress, and trust me, everyone will be looking at her.

Mike is 6'8" and I'm 5'2" At the wedding, if Pastor will let us, we're going to have a step stool for me to get up on for the kiss.

At my wedding, the photographer made me stand on a stack of hymnals for the picture of us alone. I thought that was silly.....I'm short, he's tall....get over it!

I know that feeling. I claim 5'2", but I suspect I'm closer to 5'1". Keep those tall guys around--they're handy to have around when you need something from the top shelf. I have a tall nephew I rarely see--he lives 1300 miles away. Last time I saw him, he leaned against the wall in my MIL's kitchen and put his hand flat on the ceiling.

I tell my husband all the time that I only married him for his height! He is easy for me to find in a crowd, too, besides being able to reach for stuff.

When I worked in a clothing store, everyone wanted to get me a bike flag so they could find me behind the racks of clothes. When I first started working there, the manager thought I was in the back, and not doing my job. She sure laughed when she figured out the problem!

I'm originally from Western New York. I didn't realize that ABATE was more than just a regional organization.

Maybe ABATE started out regional--I have no idea. I don't know if this is a regional or national event. All I know is that the first weekend of July, the motorcycles come. They've been having their Freedom Rally near here for at least 20 years. They used to have it in a county park 25 miles away, but a few years ago they bought a farm place a few miles from my town and converted it into a private park. Grocery shopping will be a bit more colorful this week, anyway. Tiger gets really excited whenever he sees just one motorcycle, so we'll probably have to take him to the playground near the highway so he can watch them go by.
