Even worse are the names on the list that one of the elders wasn't even familiar with. Doesn't the synod have guidelines about these things?

How membership rolls are kept is basically up to the policy of the congregation. Individual members should be responsible for making sure their membership information is accurate and correct. This is something that I've battled here for a while, making sure that members addresses and phone numbers, etc. are accurate and up to date. I would suggest that you hound the elders until the matter is resolved.

You're missing the point, Scott. The membership roster is not kept updated and is in no way correct.

My membership was announced to the congregation as is proper procedure, yet we were never added to the roll....it's only been 2 years. How long should it take?

Oh! Well I think someone better get their act together and fix this thing.

 I'll be mad and frustrated for you.

You know, if you speak up about it, they'll hand the job over to you to fix it all ;) Sometimes it can be good to keep quiet ^_^

My son had the opposite problem. For a bried period of time last Spring, he was listed as a member at 3 churches! When we moved, he had made it known he was not changing his membership, so we were surprised to find out last Spring he was still considered a member there after having been a member here for 8 years. He was also in the process of transferring his membership to where he now lives and was on theirs but not yet off of ours here. We think he is a member of one now, but we thought that before.

He wasn't meaning to pad the memberships.

He was just kidding, he finally got around after he said that that if I wanted to start coming there to let him know, kind of like I got a place to go if I want. I think he kind of knows what's happened with me via my mother.

This is but part of our situation with having a non-ordained pastor with no training or seminary education. See why I feel victimized by DELTO?

I actually have offered to help many times in many ways, but it is never followed up on or taken advantage of. Don't want to step on someone's toes who's been handling that for all these years.

No matter what else, a church must also operate the business aspects along basic administrative guidelines and it so apparent that this is not the case here. Again, when there is no one trained or properly educated to oversee things, they go undone or mismanaged. :sigh: There is such disorganization that it makes me question how we are going to be able to function for much longer.

Oh I'm sure you're certified -------err. official :)

Who told?!?! ;)

I think we touched on this a few months ago. Is there a certain amount paid to synod for the amount in the membership role? Seems to me DaRev mentioned that that wasn't the case. Or that the congregation receives some type of benefit because of inflated membership? Can't remember exactly what the response was. Can you clarify this DaRev or filosofer?

Synod receives support from the districts. A portion of the district support it receives from congregations goes to synod.
Congregations support of the district is usually based on communicant membership of the congregation (although our district does not do it that way any longer).

But there are other things that are affected by communicant membership totals, including some benefits available from synod and other agencies. Also the delegates for the synod convention is based upon total communicant membership in each circuit. It is always a good idea to have the membership rolls up to date.

The church I'm a member at was disorganized before the pastor left. They don't have much at all to get into, no commitees or womens groups. I've heard stuff out of people there I wish I hadn't, seen stuff I wish I hadn't. If anything goes on, I've always had to ask if I could help. No one ever come up to me and asked if I'd do something, only the Pastor and his mother in law, his wife did come up to me and asked me to take over the braille which surprised me, now they are gone. Also I've signed up for stuff and there's been a few times that I didn't get to help. The wall went up. It feels like you either fit in or you don't instead of everyone working for the glory of God. The church is still in the process of looking for a pastor still. I don't think any letters have been sent out. If they don't get a guest pastor, then the guy that went through that delto program, he's not the president now, someone else just got voted in, he'll give communion when there's no pastor. I just want to do so much for the Lord besides worship that I am still praying and waiting for an answer whether to stay or go somewhere else.

Are you meaning "Certifiable" Rad? ;)
I met a buddy of mine's cousin years ago. His last name was something like "Fierce". He fit his name well. He was huge and had all these scars around his face and part of his side shot out from a shotgun blast. He looked like Frankenstein's monster. Plus he didn't have all his ducks in a row.

He came to Bill's house one day and showed us a certificate that he had gotten from a Texas state mental institution. He said "Here----see------they say I'm not nuts". Bill and I said "Uh huh". What else can you say to "sasquatch" ?
