Ah, we will take your word for it. You don't have to use scripture to prove it. You are among friends here.

I was just at the EO's forum right before I posted that statement That's pretty much one of the reasons I felt compelled to say it LOL

Now I know who to ask should we find ourselves in Chicago and the Cubs are at home.

LOL He usually gets stuck with the games no one else wants to go to...he's going again this weekend. Last weekend was too cold and that's why no one wanted to go!

I was in a discussion today and actually defended RC against non-denoms and their declaration that they don't need no stinking creeds or doctrine or anything else penned by man. They only need their Bibles. Mind you this was AFTER numerous attempts at getting them to understand that catholic was not synonymous with Roman Catholic. Ugh!

Not on CF. A buddy of mine on an Alma Mater board was upset because someone called his wife a idolatrous pagan for being RC when she declined taking part in their non-denom bake sale.

I stated that the lack of knowledge of many non-denoms is usually evident and it's not worth getting upset about. That brought the few we have out and I was called condescending and one of those who obviously doesn't read the Bible but must depend on some man (Luther) to tell me what to believe (he meant the Creeds). Oy vey!

One of the RC's caught his error in Scriptural reference as he was referring to verses that didn't exist. Then he made fun of ME saying hail Mary and burning incense. He was a visual aid for my point, but it was sad.

What truly amazes me is that those who reject the creeds don't realize that they come right out of Scripture. Not verbatim, but they are exactly what the Scriptures teach.
How do non-denoms keep track of their beliefs. maybe I didn't word that very well, but you know what I mean, right?

"Show me where it says I need to believe in some creed or take catachizm (sic) or whatever in the Bible. If it's not in the Bible, I refuse to accept I need it because some man told me so."
They just say what they believe is in the Bible. Like a broken record.

This guy had no idea what Creeds I referred to, what catechism is, or what the Sacrament of the Altar is....but he believes everything just as the Bible states it. It's all about Jesus.
He was very defensive yet made our point with every post and of course it got personal. "I don't need your catholic practices for salvation. The Bible says nothing about the catholic church." Yet, WE are the close-minded ones.

I'd just agree with him. "What we believe is in the Bible, too. Sola Scriptura. The creeds and the catechsim just help us explain what the Bible says."
Now, I know they won't buy it, but it's still the truth.

What they simply don't realize is everything the Lutheran Church practices and teaches is what the Apostle's practiced and taught. They (non-denoms) are the ones who have changed the teachings of the Bible.
(Tell then that... and then run! )

I once had a Baptist friend (interesting, I just misspelled that as "fiend" ) tell me that she'd be praying for me 'cause I "used the wrong Bible".

I was confused so I asked "huh? What do you mean 'wrong Bible?"

She said "well that isn't the Bible that God uses. He only uses the KJV 1611."

"Oh," says I, "I guess all of those people in France, Germany and other non English speaking foreign countries are just wasting their time reading the Bible in their own languages then right? God's just going to damn them to Hell 'cause they can't read English huh? Man, it must suck to be them." (why yes, I am a bit sarcastic when confronted with utter...well...stupidity.)

To which she had no comment. But she'd remind me almost weekly that she was praying that I'd "see the light" and "come back to the true Word."

*sigh*

Tried that. When I asked what he thought Sola Scriptura meant all I got was, "Scripture and soul something. Is that what those other books say?"

Ugh!

THAT was when I was labeled condescending. Oh, and any mention of proper order of Law and Gospel really gets them going. I have no idea why.

Does she pray for you or thou?

You know what they say... "If it was good enough for John the Baptist, it's good enough for me."

Now don't go and confuse things with Law and Gospel. After all, we only need to hear the Gospel once every, oh, 5 years or so. And the Law well, since we are saved, we don't sin anymore so who needs the Law? Yet, we need to live right.

Am I leaving anything out? Grrr!!!
