Since I've moved into a new home I need to fill the walls. I've been thinking of the following styles of art.

Italien Renn
Harlem Renn
Regionalism
Cubism
Neo-Primitivism.

I've also thrown in James Tissot but am not sure what style he falls under. Can anyone suggest some names?

Better fill the walls with insulation for those wet, cold windy winters, and not pictures

LOL, yeah well that's why the Brits make it so hard to get a residency permit or citizenship. There's only so much room there. Porter has it a bit better than average too. She has a... I would guess condominium, in a converted Manor House. Have I got that right Porter? Well, Manor House, Converted into Air Base, converted into School... whatever, it sounds like a really nice place! High density housing is common there. Always has been, really. The Brits don't like wasting their farmland like we do here. All the same, there's tons of those old family seats with impoverished (by death taxes) aristocrats who need to face reality and do what they did with Porter's house. Many estates have what they called a Dowager's house, and the Aristo. could hole up there I suppose.

Take the Spencer's (as in Princess Diana's brother's) place. You could easily split it up into twenty or thirty spacious units! There are larger places in the countryside too! I would hate to see any more go the fate of Lowther Castle.

But I'm rambling, likely rather ignorantly too, again. Sorry.

Something like all that, Stude. My daughter was given permanent resident status before we even moved, though, so it depends on the circumstances. I had to wait a while and pay another fee, of course.

Our home isn't a condo as Americans would know it. It is a house with neighbors on either adjoining wall, but at least we have full length front and back garden/patio areas. We're fortunate there. There are more neighbors on the other side of the rear courtyard with a couple of upper level flats in the main part of the central/original house and the original stable block was converted to several 3 bedroom houses, as well.

There is no approval process for buying or selling here. The handful of individually owned homes are bought and sold without involving other residents. My in-laws were part of the original owners group that made sure of that. It's after people move in that they get harassed by one person in particular, but she's outnumbered by reasonable types now. Finally!!!!

We're not too densely packed in here. We have enough acreage to keep us adequately separated from the more common commoners in the village.

Y'all haven't seen snobbery on the scale it exists here. God bless America.


ETA: Jonathon, you can't go wrong with Impressionist type pieces. Otherwise, flowery wallpaper is my suggestion.

Interior Decoration... LOL! My style of interior decoration has been called Early American Childhood, among other less complimentary names.

As to the pictures on the walls, I have Currier and Ives, a centre page spread from Illustrated London News (my favourite) dated May 28, 1887. I had it mounted and framed. Lots of coaching and hunt prints. So... yeah, I'm not going to be much help with the more 'Mod' stuff. Never liked stuff like that anyway. Unless of course it was something my kids brought home. My eldest's fourth grade stuff looks a lot like Picasso's work...

Yep, you betcha yah sure, Hotel Art. And proud of it Baby! Though I never really get complimented on my taste in art, people rarely fail to find a favourite. Usually it's the Illustrated London Times piece. then again, maybe that's because most of the people that come around my place are horse people...

Nope, I'm no help with all those mentioned styles and artists, Jon. My tastes are just too bourgeois.

You know, I used to view the Post Office with mild annoyance. A place full of arrogant annoying people who just didn't give a crap about anyone who came through thier doors. There are a few exceptions. Our previous postmistress was an excellent example of this. Debbie nearly restored my faith in the USPS. However, the woman who replaced her is a jerk of the first order. This year her trick is to randomly pick a piece of important mail out and send it back with a notice my box is closed. They did this so often to my insurance carrier that I have to go into the office to pay now. People like her really make it easy to understand why people shoot postal employees and why some postal employees go... well... Postal.
Just... frustrating.

In the last 6 months the new postmistress (mistress ?) has been filling our PO Box with other people's mail. My wife used to turn in the misplaced mail, now she just shoves it back through the box. The wife did mention that she hasn't seen the blonde PM for awhile.

$789 for a ring and pinion gear for an older truck? That's almost more than the truck is worth. I'll just put in some new rear end grease and maybe some limited slip additive and see if I can make it last a year longer.

Beach, you sound like me! Now, if you'd got a Studebaker to begin with, that wouldn't be so much of an issue. Why, that part would be half the cost, or less. Then again, as broke as I am, LOL, it might as well be twice as much.

Beach, McNaughton's art is truely beautiful, if a bit costly. C'mon, five hundred dollars for a fancy poster???? Also, are you aware that the man is a Mormon? Having been involved with them, I'd advise against getting tangled up with them in any way. I like the man's work. I agree with most of his beliefs regarding this country and our government. However, he is influenced by the religious organization to which he is bound. Mormons are NOT Christians! Don't believe it when they tell you they are. They are not! McNaughton, may or may not be, but I wouldn't give much hope for it. Are you sure that you want the work of a such a non-chirstian in your house? Be careful my friend. He is preaching with his paintings.

Did you visit either of the National Museums in the UK (London or Edinburgh) when you visited? If you had, I'm certain you would have enjoyed portions of them. The number of paintings depicting Christ is impressive.

hmmm......can't believe its 25 years since I've visited London, except for the layover last year of 5 hr's. I spent most of my stay, which was 2 days, around Convent Gardens and the theatre district (Nunsense)and sang in one of the churches there.

Actually one of most prolific painters I saw was Cranach in Germany. His religious paintings are all over. Especially in Lutheran churches and museums. Him and his staff produced over 1000 paintings, if I remember correctly. He developed a porcess in his pigments that remain vibrant and clear even after 500 years. Many of the paintings still look like they were painted yesterday. He was brought to the forfront because he painted many pictures depicting Lutheran theology and he was also a contemporary of Luther.

You know you should come to South Bend, we have the Studebaker Museum here. . . Ever been there?

To be honest I havn't, but I'm not really that into cars. They get me from place A to place B semi-comfortably and reliably with decent gas milage. . . thats a good car.

Rain, rain, rain. It's rained at least once every day for the last five and we need it. No rain in April and only traces in May, which is devastating for a country with few reservoirs.

Wimbledon starts in 9 days, so it figures this pattern would start now. Hopefully it will behave during the tournament, but the country should be bright green and in full bloom when the tourists arrive. I know my begonias are certainly happy.

Does anyone there watch tennis? Are you seeing the Queen's tourney this week?

I think Renoir was study of the human interaction and the human form. Cranach, on the other hand, reminds me more of an illustrator of his time to express ideas in pictures. Some of his paintings are not grandiose expressions but rather staid in expression. Almost plain. A lot of his studies show Luthers ideas on a canvass. Intresting enough is Cranach played both sides of the fence. He did just as many paintings for the RCC as he did for Luther. I think he cranked out more paintings for Luther because he was an admirer of Luther and considered himself "Lutheran".

I'm not going to say which Renoirs I admire the most.

I would steer way clear of the ones that try to combine religion and politics, as some of the ones I see there are clearly confusing the two kingdoms.

There is a young Lutheran artists who is doing some very nice work, in a realistic style which I prefer, who I really like.

Unfortunately, I can't remember his name, and I can't seem to find any of his paintings on google. I know that there are really nice ones of the triumphal entry, and of Noah and the ark, but for the life of me I can't find them.

Yes, I contributed my nickel to the Museum, no I've never been there yet, and I stress yet. However, I find it interesting that the city is going out of their way to erase any other vestige of a company that supported their community for over a hundred years. The bitterness of the automotive division's demise is still alive and well in South Bend.

Back in the day when I had horses and carriages, my most prized vehicles were a Studebaker Break and Gig (two-wheeled Carriage). Later, when I became disillusioned with Detroit and the crap they were turning out, I turned back to cars I could fix. My preferrence at the time was GM (or BM as I came to call them) products. Since the parts availability for late-model (since there's nothing else) Studebakers was so excellent, that's what I settled on. Now that I'm moving back in the direction of horses and Carriages again, the Studebakers are on the forefront.

About art, I've seen a few examples of Cranach's work. It's interesting. Monet is my favourite 'Old Master.' I guess because without my glasses, the world looks like one of his paintings.
