CF is forcing this issue for some reason.

Please...when did CF twist your arm and make you post in the general forum?

All we've done is say we're not removing the general forum. Right now, I'm posting this in a forum where ELCA and others cannot debate. How does having the general forum change that?

If you don't like what you read there, simply don't read and don't post there. Keep your comments confined to this forum, where the liberals cannot come in and try to defend themselves, and don't ever venture into their neck of the woods for fear of what they may have wrote about you guys.

And then those of us who actually enjoy most of the conversations in the general forum can still chat there.

No one is forcing you to do anything, so please don't blame CF for the troubles in that forum. Blame the attitudes of many people who post there. You'd be surprised at who the actual troublemakers are.

I wasn't talking about my feelings. I'm talking about how it looks to others coming in to find out information on Lutheranism. The whole thing is an impossible situation.

Here's a quick way to resolve that. When someone comes in looking for information on Lutheranism, share what you believe, and invite them to this neck of the woods. Let the liberal members do the same, they have no less right to do this than you do.

Present your beliefs in loving truth, with kindness and humility. Stop focusing so much on what that other church teaches, but focus on what YOUR church does teach.

God tells us in his word:

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

It's just hard to watch dishonesty about what one's synod teaches.

That's fine and dandy, but we need to just deal with the doctrines. The personal jabs back and forth have got to stop. It's one thing to attack a person's doctrine, it's another thing to start attacking them personally just because we don't like their beliefs.

One of the main complaints we see out of the general forum is the demand for respect from the conservatives, but a huge lack of respect from the conservatives.

We have no right to demand it if we cannot give it ourselves. You may hate the ELCA, you may hate what it stands for, and you may even hate the people who are members there, but there are still rules and guidelines for posting here.

I'm good friends with many of those who belong to ELCA churches, and many of them are struggling with their own churches and their own synod, and sometimes we heap coals on their heads for belonging to the ELCA. Yes, I'm guilty of it too, for the main reason you listed above, I don't like being associated with what the ELCA teaches.

The BEST way to combat this is to show what Luther teaches. If someone from the ELCA says "it's okay for women to be pastors" show where Luther says it's not, show where the bible says it's not. Let the teachings show if someone is following Lutheran doctrine or not. When we present facts rather than emotions, there's no arguing them.

I guess it was hard for me to accept the new strategy by the ELCA to just start calling us liars. Well - me anyway. I haven't gotten into the new ELCA threads much, because of their new ways of handling things.

Hate is a real strong word for you to use on me - I don't really appreciate it too much. But I guess that is your right to say what you want.

I spent a lot of time in prayer about this situation last weekend while I was mowing lawn. Breaks are surely good for me from the general forum at times.

My allergies have started in early too! Zyrtec and Benadryl both make me too sleepy and Claritin gives me an itchy rash on my chest so this year I'm trying out Allegra. It's not too bad. Not very strong though and I doubt it will work very well when the cottonweed stuff starts to fly around in a few weeks.

Oh, and I've always had straight hair and wanted curly! LOL
I've been stuck on Zyrtec this whole spring...it makes me a bit sleepy too, so I take it at night, and that works fine.

I saw a report last week that said in the KC-St.L stretch (which is notorious for allergies anyway) this is the worst allergy season on record.

Allergies have been bad for me and my hubby this spring too. Had to go on Advair this spring. It has helped me tremendously. Somehow, a doctor convinced hubby to use his steroid nose spray daily. I keep telling him he could save us and the insurance company money if he would just listen to me.

Maybe Christian forums should make it to where you cannot post in ELCA unless your ELCA...you cannot post in LCMS if your not LCMS etc. That might seem kind of cold, but it maybe be the solution to some of the issues that keep arising. Although I'm sure there are some that like arguing their points to those who feel differently and would find it boring if we were segregated.

I agree with your sentiment wholly, Ang. It doesn't matter how vigorously one shakes the bottle, oil and water will NEVER mix. Forcing the two extreme sides of those who call themselves Lutheran to share a forum is just bad news, plain and simple. We ourselves can handle it OK, but when people come in to ask questions and get two completely different answers, it turns them off completely. That breaks my heart.

There are reasons why the Roman Catholic and the Eastern Orthodox have seperate forums. There are reasons why the Baptists and Presbyterians have seperate forums. It's because they are completely different church bodies with completely different teachings. It's no different between the Confessional Lutherans and the liberals. They are two completely different church bodies with completely different teachings, yet we are forced to not only endure their heterodoxy, but must CONTINUALLY defend ourselves from it. That's what leads to the arguments, etc. I'm afraid that TCL does more to damage the face of true Lutheranism than anything else.

I'll be the first to admit that I can be quite sinful in the general forum. Perhaps it's best for me to bow out and let the ELCA have it. If peace is the goal - I don't see much other way to handle it.

But - in a few days, I'll probably be back in there.....knowing me. :o

what is heterodoxy?

here matt, i don't know if it'll help at all:

heterodox (ˈhɛtərəʊˌdɒks) — adj 1. at variance with established, orthodox, or accepted doctrines or beliefs 2. holding unorthodox opinions [C17: from Greek heterodoxos holding another opinion, from hetero- + doxa opinion]
