Check it out yourself. Prove me wrong. It's in the public domain.
That is is your admission that you are wrong? On a public website where now and forever people can see what you posted?

Asking someone to prove a negative?

That’s a bold move on a debate forum, Cotton. Let’s see how this plays out.

When a person makes a claim, such as you did, you take on a burden of proof. When others ask you to support your claim and you do not you are then in essence admitting that you are wrong.
Crazy, isn’t it?

Asking someone to prove a negative shows every reading the poster doesn’t have the most basic education in the philosophy of science.

One wonders why anyone would post something so ignorant where it can be seen forever (or until the internet dies when SkyNet takes over).

If I do prove it, whatt difference will it make?
It would mean that you were correct. Other people might not like it but that is their business.

The important thing is that if you could support your assertion you could have a positive effect on doubters.

The ideas surrounding proving a negative are, as you suggested, part of the philosophy of science. Most people do not study the philosophy of science. I do not recall the concept being raised in any part of my school or university education in science. Rather it was a concept that emerged implicitly as one acquired the mechanics of the scientific method.

Consequently, it is not at all surprising that someone with little or no science education would be ignorant of it. It is disappointing, as may be the case here, when individuals who have been informed of the situation continue to demand proof. But we should consider that we may not be doing a good enough job of educating them.

I'll also challenge you on "why anyone would post something so ignorant where it can be seen forever". I take great pains to ensure accuracy in my posts, to distinguish opinions from facts, and qualify statements where there is uncertainty. If I am in error I will post a retraction.
A few years ago, on another forum, I posted a ridiculous wholly inaccurate statement because I hadn't taken the trouble - on that occasion - to double check the topic. The moderators very kindly offered to delete the post. (A remarkable offer!) I insisted it be left there because I believe our errors should remain visible and as a reminder to me to think thrice before posting.

"The well-established, but not altogether agreed upon, tradition of Lady Ayesha’s age at the time of marrying Prophet Muhammad comes from a hadith in one of the most authentic collections – Sahih al-Bukhari in which Ayesha, herself, states: “The Messenger of God married me when I was six, and consummated the marriage with me when I was nine.”

Modern Muslims are trying to wriggle out of this statement. The fact remains that traditional Islam accepts that Muhammed slept with a 9 year old.

I'll take non-sequiturs for 500, Alex.

That’s fair enough but I would assert that that is not the case in this instance.

Agreed. Perhaps my observation would have been better phrased as: If someone has an idea that is, to those familiar with the topic, clearly ignorant, then they can hardly be expected to avoid posting it in order to avoid exposing their ignorance, since they do not know they are ignorant on that topic.

This is the issue I have with the Deniars of the flood. There are hundreds of independent accounts, yet they are so smug and arrogant as to dismiss all of them.

If you think that's bad, wait until you hear about the billions of independent accounts that the Hindu gods are real and all the "smug and arrogant" dismissals of those.

Yeah, I can get behind that.

Not really. Modern science exerts enormous amounts of time, money, intelligence, technology and personnel in the futile attempt to disprove the reality of God.

I guess we've gotten to the "let's just make stuff up" part of the discussion.

I originally gave your post an "Agree" icon, then changed it to "Like". Why? I think the "let's just make stuff up" likely started a lot earlier. :)

Perhaps you should have looked at your earlier claim since the source that you did not quote from did not support your claim. And your post is highly misleading. The unsupported quote that you used did not come from your link. That almost makes it look as if you were trying to lie.
