Genesis 36: Did God Really Hate Esau? « The Chronological Bible Project

I would suggest you read that. In addition, it's all about the sovereignty of God.

Very good link. It concurs with my study bible.

Hatred is a covenant term used to contrast God's loyal love for Jacob who was chosen to be the instrument of redemption. Esau and Jacob were twin sons of Isaac, grandsons of Abraham. Only one of them could provide the family line through which the Messiah would come. The point of this verse is primarily that God chose Jacob (made a covenant with him) for that special role and not Esau.

Good example of why it is important not to take verses out of context and why good study material is need when one becomes confused. Thank you.

>>>>>> hi migdala.. the bible says that we are to be born again, in order to have eternal life.. it also says that we are to believe that Jesus is the Christ, confess with our mouths and do this with a contrite[repentant] heart.. if you did this with sincerity, then you are saved once forever. this is none of your own doing. lest any one boast.. it's by the Grace of God that you are saved. through faith in Christ Jesus.. you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Whom works out your salvation in you.. so as you can see. it really is nothing that you do to be saved.. God, does everything.. lets cover this again.. it is by God's Grace that you come to have faith in Christ Jesus. Whom redeemed you, and the Holy Spirit works out your salvation in you.. so you see. we really don't do anything.. even our faith is from God.. now, you can only be saved once.. but, it is for eternity.. you are actually an eternal spirit with a body that unfortunately is still in a fallen state. but when God looks at you. He doesn't see your sinful body anymore, as it really is covered in the Blood of Christ Jesus. He sees you[a living spirit] that by the way is the likeness of His Son Jesus.. the bible says, "those that God foreknew. He predestined, to be conformed to the likeness of His Son.. "WOW"!!!. so then we can take rest in knowing that God foreknowing us has saved us and given us eternal life.. so if He started these works in us we can rest assured, that He will see it thru.. this is the work of the Holy Spirit..He sanctifies usand makes us Christ like. He convicts us, and fellowships with us.. this is why it is said that the body is the Temple of God.. He lives in union within us.. you and i are sinners, and yes, we deserve to be punished, not saved.. this is the part that i think you may be missing from the whole equation. and it is what helped me to put it all in perspective.. everything that God does, brings Glory to His Name.. again. God works everything out to bring Glory to His name.. it's not about you and me .. it's about God bringing about Glory to His name.. there are two ways that He does this.. the first way, is by His Mercy.. when God saves a sinner that deserves hell. or has patience on an entire people. all of creation marvels at His Glory.. just to prove this.. who hardened their hearts.. God did.. then who saves them in the end from His great wrath.. God, again.. the other way that He brings Glory to Himself, is thru His wrath..here is a great example. He allows satan to be the ruler of this world for a time.. but, we can see in the book of job, that satan is on a leash and has very definate boundaries.. God could have destroyed him in the beginning. what Glory would that have brought to the Most High God.. so, God uses satan to bring about his plan.. in this case He[God] came in the form of the man Jesus, and became the atoning sacrifice for sin.. the end result is God, bringing Glory to His name.. again! us doing nothing. God doing everything. but, bring about His Glory again.. you see how it works, now.. so don't be to concerned at dreams or so called visions.. or anything for that matter.. God, has got your back.. the Lord wants us to take rest in Him. knowing with full assurance that we are saved.. we can never lose our salvation.. some people may say that there is an unpardonable sin.. but, i promise you that if you are concerned about these matters. its because you are saved, and possibly convicted in your heart a little.... try watching alot less television. reading your bible a whole lot more, as in daily. find suitable christian fellowship[bible study, church group]. pray in the spirit[thats with your heart and not so much your head.. and give thank continually. and talk to the Lord as you would a friend that you know loves you.. sing songs of praise to Him. ya know.. He really does love us, you and me.. if you have anymore questions. please don't hesitate to message me. i love Christ and we are part of the same body.. so your peace of mind is very important to me.. this is for anyone hat has concerns... in Christ ... dale

I appreciate your reply, but my own salvation did not happen that way. I walked in my bedroom, sat down and asked God to forgive me, and He baptized me in His Spirit right then. I fell to the ground in worship, totally convicted of my sins, and His love was poured out on me. I drank in my Bible like it was living water. I saw visions of Jesus for an entire week. Everything about me changed in a split second-every sin that I loved, I simply hated in a split second, and could not stand to be around other people who did those things. All I did was witness, witness, witness. I FELT His Spirit enter my body! God SPOKE to me, over and over, telling me how much He loved me and that I was His daughter! I fell in love with Jesus, and actually saw a vision of Him on the cross, looking down on ME standing at the bottom of the cross. The vision made me cry so much that I had to pull over on the side of the road.

I changed immedietely when His Spirit entered me-not over time. My conversion was similar to Paul's when he met Jesus on the road to Damascus. God gave me knowledge of things in the Bible that I had never even read before-I would read the verses and realize that He had already spoken those things to me!

I do not watch TV btw. I do nothing but go to work, church, Bible Study, read my Bible, or come on this forum to learn.

I do not know what happened to me when I "felt" something leave my body-and I cannot have peace until God shows me that I had not committed the unpardonable sin.

Yes, of course I know that my salvation rests completely on what Jesus did for us-but you are mistaken to believe that a person can be saved once, and sin their life away, forget about Jesus, and still enter Heaven. That is a lie.

Do you honestly think that an 8 year old kid can walk up in church, say the so called "sinners prayer" and then when he's an adult, go out and become a rapist and serial killer and still make it to Heaven? Do you honestly believe that our perfect, Holy God would allow such sin in Heaven, just because that person had said a sinners prayer when they were a kid?

i never said that a person was saved once and could sin away.. that is contrary to what i believe. i wanna add that you are using words like rapist and serial killer.. my mind doesn't even go there.. i find you quite offensive.. i can't believe you are attacking me.. enough said .

??? I'm very sorry if you feel that I am attacking you-I am not. But I do not believe that a person can be saved at a young age and then fall away from God and still expect to enter the Kingdom of God.

You find me "offensive?" I'm very sorry that you find my questioning offensive....I am not trying to be offensive and I am sorry that you are so upset with me. I am not sure why....? Because I asked you about someone who sinned and losing their salvation becoming saved again? Someone who falls away from the Lord cannot enter Heaven-you know that, right?

Peter was saved...he walked with the Lord for over 3 years, but then he denied Him. He had to repent and come back to the Lord to be saved again. If he had not repented, he would not have been saved.

There is a book I would like to suggest to you. It is called "The Believer's conditional security" by Dan Corner. It's very good, and it lists all the Bible verses that say that a person is saved IF they continue to the End.

Jesus will not leave us or forsake us...but WE can certainly fall short by not bearing fruit, falling away, willfully sinning, etc. etc. It's all in the Bible.

God bless you!

migdala, I want some answer from you that is what are you thinking about Islam?
do you know anything about Mohamed nabi

I just got off work-I cannot spend every second on this website-I'm sorry I have not answered you quickly. lol

I do not know anything about Islam or Mohamed Nabi, whoever he is. All I know is that Islam is not the way to Heaven. I trust in my Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only way to salvation.

I don't know if I asked you this before, but have you actually ever been baptized?

And FWIW, the sinner's prayer has no Biblical basis. Jesus said to believe and confess. That's it.

I have been baptized three times. I know, not necessary, but I did anyway. The first time was when I was a small child-my parents wanted me to, so I did. I had no clue what I was doing or what it meant. The second time was when the Holy Spirit led me to the Lord when I was a teenager. I fell away from the Lord for many years, then repented and came back to Him a few years ago. I got baptized a few months after I repented. Why do you ask?

I saw a video a few days ago that bothered me. It was from a guy I subscribe to his videos on YouTube. In the video, he talks about how he thought he was a good Christian his whole life, but then he died from a heart attack. He stood in front of God, and He said He was going to send him to Hell because He had not told enough people about Him. Maybe God considered him lukewarm, idk.

That video really bothered me because I struggle with coming up with ways to spread the gospel myself-I never know how to start a conversation about God in order to witness, which is what we are all commanded to do-share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

So as I am pondering this video, a friend of mine called me. This girl is one of the strongest Christians I know-she is very involved in her church, has a very strong gift of prophecy and deliverance, and prays for hours for people.....

But she called me and told me that a couple of weeks ago she had a vision that she was standing at the edge of Hell, in front of God. And God was going to send her to Hell because He said she did not love Him with all her heart!

That really freaked me out because I have always thought this girl was a strong, strong Christian-one I turn to whenever I myself need prayer!

I myself had a very vivid vision at the end of last year that was very similar.....

So, as Christians, what do we need to do in order to go to Heaven? Of course I know that we must believe in Jesus....but these two people (and myself) had these visions and experiences that God has given them that really makes me wonder who exactly is going to make it to Heaven?

The examples we are given in the Bible of prior "end times" include Noah and the flood, and Sodom and Gomorrah. During the flood, only 8 people were saved in the entire world! And only 1 was saved out of Sodom and Gomorrah (would have been 2, but Lot's wife looked back and turned to salt). We have no clue how many people lived there, but it was probably a good amount I'm sure.

Point I'm trying to make is that out of all the people in the world, how many do we honestly think will make it to Heaven when they die, or when Jesus comes back? Jesus says that "Many are called, but few are chosen!" and the flood and what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah are a type of example.....I think maybe it is telling us that NOT MANY are actually going to make it to Heaven!

How can we even know when we are in right standing with the Lord God? My friend, and the guy in the video seemed to be such good strong Christians, and they both thought they were in right standing with God because of their belief in Jesus, and their ministries, church involvement, relationship with God, etc. etc....

The thought of being separated from God for all eternity is the most terrifying thing I can imagine! I have struggled with doubts of my own salvation for 4 years now, and hearing about those two experiences of the people I mentioned, as well as my own vision last year scares me so much! I am so thankful that I am still alive, that God is giving me (and all of us here!) more chances to turn to Him completely......

What can we do? How can we know we are on our way to Heaven if these other two people thought they were right with God and had the experiences they had? According to these experiences these two people (and myself) had, one was not going to Heaven because he did not tell enough people about Jesus......God allowed him to come back, and this guy spends every minute available spreading the word, making videos, etc. I really like him-his videos are short and to the point, and he is so devoted to God, he makes a new video nearly every single day!

And then my friend who God showed her that He was sending her to Hell because she did not love Him enough, even though she thought she was a strong Christian who had great spiritual gifts and ministries and spent so much time helping others and involved in her church and had a strong relationship with the Lord Jesus.

This scares me so much. I so badly want to be assured I am going to Heaven when I die, but I don't know what to think now, after hearing of these two people's experiences. :(

Hi, I am so sorry you are going through this frusterating times, in my teachings I have some basics to put a person on a right track. it is a battle in the mind. this is why it is so important to renew your mind
daily by the Word, Jesus was the word before He was born into this
world.

John 1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2The same was in the beginning with God.

3All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made.
4In Him was life and that life was the Light of men.
5And the Light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not.
Jesus came to give us life more abundantly, satan came to steal, to kill
andto destroy. You must make a decision of whom you will serve.
Fear is of satan, faith is to believe his promises.
Choose this day of whom you will serve.

These are these are some of his promises.

John 16:13However when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth; for He shall not speak from Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak; and He will show you things to come.

1Thess.5:
16Rejoice evermore.

17Pray without ceasing.
18In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
19Quench not the Spirit.
20Despise not prophesyings.
21Test all things; hold fast to that which is good.
22Abstain from all appearance of evil.
23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be
reserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24Faithful is He that calleth you; He also will do it.
As we go along in His Word, your faith will grow.

I can say today with all my heart[spirit] as in John5:14-15
.
He that hath the Son has life; and he that has not the Son does no not have life. These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

And this is the confidence that we have in Him: that if we ask anything according to His will ,---[His Word is His his will]--- He heareth us. And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him. Respecfully, Parsonsmom

Thank you for your reply! Yes, renewing the mind is the key...something I am trying so very hard to do. It always amazes me at how some people are so good at doing it, and others struggle so much. I've been the latter, but am trying to just speak who I am in Christ over and over and trying to realize that not every "vision" that people have is actually from God-Satan can cause attacks that can probably make people believe it is from God too maybe....I don't know, but he probably can. :(
