It can be hard to know sometimes if we are being 'convicted' to not do something, or if we are guilting ourselves with useless legalism. And searching for specific Biblical examples often doesn't help.

But ask yourself this: How does this activity line up with what I know about God's nature?

You are His son, and He is your Father. So keep it in the family. Take it up with your Dad and tell Him the whole truth from your heart, and watch what happens next.

LOL, no prize. I'm trying to arrive at a decision without actualy saying what it's about because 99.9% of people have already made up their minds about it long before they begin to question their own minds. It is 99.9% acceptable by all people of all faiths, but no one ever questions the origins of it or their own assumedly good intentions in indulging in it.
So you can see why I want standards to apply without naming it.
Standards get immediately set aside for it. It is totaly going against the crowd to even question it.
So I'm trying to get individual input without the mind-control input of the crowd.

Rick: First do no harm-to yourself nor to others. Second go about doing good. We do not get to do things just because we want to nor do we have to entertain just any thought that pops into our heads.

If you desire is from God, Great but if is from the enemy take care and think twice.
it does not matter what everybody is doing or not doing, that is not what makes something moral or just. As Paul says all things are lawful but not all things are beneficial. Try and discern and make your choices along those lines. Take Care.

Yes truely following God can put us at odds with our family. There is so much deception going on at our churches with so few trustable clergy it leaves one to independence and aloneness without much human fellowship. One of my things is something God calls good and our societey calls evil. I go with God and the social scene can go fly a kite. Always been pretty much a loner anyway.

It is so common today that to not do it seems abnormal. And if I say what it is, all the common prejudices immediately cascade into everyone's frontal lobes and clarity is lost.

So everybody does it, but no apostles ever did or ever instructed us to or ever mentioned it in a positive light, but I don't want to be ostracized for being wierd anymore than I already am, so I think I should trust Jesus knows my heart & just go ahead & do it with everyone else.

Its origins do not matter.

If it is not against God's law, all that matters is what it means when they do it today.

I'm sure it probably does, but I am addressing Rick's specific understanding of the Scriptures regarding his specific situation.
