No doubt Trump remembers that the same mobs that attacked the Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville also attacked his campaign rallies last year. Of course he's not going to say that the antifa were innocent little lambs...

Trump lashes out at 'alt-left' in Charlottesville, says 'fine people on both sides'

Trump has made another clarifying post, in addition to his tweets.

For him, we are having a debate between the KKK, white supremacists, and nazis on one side and the left on the other. Clearly many of his backers are among the "good" people in these groups.

I can add little. The president has every right to his views. As president, he can declare that the KKK, nazis, skinheads and white supremacists should no longer be considered terrorists. The people will tell us their opinions with their votes. As was the case with Obama, I suggest that many, many Republicans will NOT want Trump anywhere near their 2018 campaigns. Of course, many will.

My OPEN question is what will happen to the Republican Party in 2020 and 2022. Will the Trump changes become relatively entrenched?
This president shows his true colors yet again. Yes, Mr. President, it was just a bunch of nice and gine and good White supremacists and Nazis with a few bad people mixed in. Because being a racist piece of crap who believes their race is better than others and that others should leave the country, and worshipping Adolf hitler and the Confederate lag is "good".

Oh, and you gotta love his -Well, I'm not going to call it terrorism- nonsense.

And then there was this gem: "No. No. There were people in that rally — and I looked the night before. If you look, there were people protesting very quietly the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee."
That's right, you read that right, he referred to the night before, when Neo-Nazi white supremacists marched through the college campus with their Tiki torches, literally CHANTING NAZI SLOGANS like "Jews will not replace us" and "Blood and Soil" (literally a Nazi slogan used by the Nazis during their reign in Germany). He literally says he looked at that night, looked at those things, and then came forward and literally DEFENDS them. There is no rational explanation here other than that this president is a White Supremacist himself.

Or it's what I've been saying all along... That he's an insensitive jerk with a very limited understanding of the complicated nuances of modern domestic and foreign politics. That he ultimately doesn't actually care about the incredible honor he's been given of leading the most powerful nation on Earth and was actually more concerned with how he looks doing it and how this could benefit himself and his family financially for years to come by creating a cult of personality to follow him in whatever he does.

It's not that he's a racist or is a white supremacist himself. It's that he just doesn't care about anyone but himself and doesn't seem to care about any of the problems that affect people who aren't already his supporters. It was only when he realized his statements on Saturday only made him less popular that he changed his tune.

Here's one of them "good people": ‘I'm glad that girl died’ during Virginia protest, says NC KKK leader

Did he mention that person or are you simply trying to fan the division here?
This person's group members were right there at that rally, hun. But do feel free to keep trying to distract and defend the president and his white supremacist buddies.

. He is correct that there were leftists protesters there intent on violence. He is right about what statue is next. If Robert E. Lee can go, Thomas Jefferson should also.

Thomas Jefferson never took up arms against the United States. We can recognize his virtues while recognizing him as a morally flawed human being. Whereas Robert E Lee has become an idol for white, rural, southern resentment. His actual personhood is probably irrelevent to the average klansman or skinhead.

He could. But he hasn't. So is there really any point to this thread other than to stir the pot a little more?

He's literally on record refusing to call this white supremacist neo-Nazi terrorist attack a terrorist attack. so, yeah, he kinda has.

No, he kinda has not. And it doesn't become something it isn't just because you add the word kinda.

Yeah, sorry, he kind a is.
Read what was said, not what you wish it had said.

As president, he can declare that the KKK, nazis, skinheads and white supremacists should no longer be considered terrorists.

That is disgraceful to say, even in the overheated atmosphere of the moment.

Whereas Robert E Lee has become an idol for white, rural, southern privilege.

So we are not at the point that even saying that not everyone is evil is considered to be unacceptable by many.

What I want to know, is if you think that this was an unacceptable statement, do you really think that your attitude is going to decrease division and lead towards peace? Because if its unacceptable to even suggest that someone on the opposing side might be decent, there's no way that we can even entertain peaceful discussion as a means to handle our conflicts, since after all evil people have nothing to add to such discussions. It moves us ever closer to a reality where there's precisely one way to settle our differences.

Do you people want conflict, or are you just oblivious to the consequences of your actions?

There are kinds of privilege, and merely having one kind of privilege doesn't deny that other kinds of privilege do exist.

OK, go ahead, keep telling the majority of the American people that you think they have it too good already. See where that gets you... where has it got you so far?
