What is it?

Never heard the word before that I remember.

Did a google search.

Appears to be a counciling procedure but does not mention using the Bible as a basis for the counseling.

Only the training of the counselor to hear the HS and Interceed.

Sound at first like something to avoid.

I have relations in Australia who I don't speak with much, but the last I heard was that they are very involved in Theophostic Prayer Ministry and think its really effective for setting people free. They said they did use Neil Anderson's approach too, but got better results with Theophostic Prayer and minister to people in the outback.

I haven't had any experience myself but the church i've just left uses Neil Anderson's approach - Steps to Freedom etc. (This wasn't the reason i left!)

This gives me a red flag:
Welcome to Theophostic Prayer Ministries!
This approach to Prayer Ministry is being used bythousands of people around the world who are reporting wonderful results. Pastors, Professional Counselors, and Lay Ministers world-wide have reported our training program to be highly effective in bringing relief to people with a wide variety of emotional duress.

Click Here to read what PASTORS and CHURCH LEADERS are saying.
Click Here to read testimonies from around the world.
Click Here for a list of links to other sites using TPM.

Advartising language being used to describe a ministry or a way of praying is a clear clear violation of what it is.
Formulai, especially formulai for sale, is false.

However from further reading on the website it does seem open to reasonable criticism and is not particularly "selling" anything for money, besides the ussual books and the like.

So I am nuetral, with reservations in the negetive.

.
Has it been confirmed that it is not scripture based. Do you have anything you can post on that information you outlined?

Hi Friend:wave:

Please check out what I say here, I maybe right I maybe wrong but I advise caution.

There was a Theophostic society at University when I was there, this theosophical group was not exclusively Christian. I was thinking of attending one of their meetings to see what was going on, but I met the anglican chaplain on the way. I told him where I was going and he told me that the Theosophical society was affiliated with the CHurch of the SPirit. I asked him what the church of the SPirit was and he said Spiritist. The 'spirit' in the name was the spirit of the medium. I later found out that some of the beliefs of the Theosophical group were astral projection and all religions leading to God. They believed Jesus was one of many and would not say that Jesus is Lord.

Now I dont know if these two groups are similar, or indeed if there is any connection with the one Jim M is talking about, but I would advise extreme caution to you dear friends before participating in their meetings~ please check out their beliefs fully and seek the Lord before you meet in a Theophostic prayer session.

BTW, what is 'Inner Healing?'. Sounds like new age, but thats just me. We dont get inner healing we get born again and then transformed by the renewing of the mind.

God Bless You

This sounds a little like sozo ministry but not quite. I'm currently reading a great book, Healing the wounded Heart, that talks about the negative seeds that speak lies to us from wounds of our childhood. The minister is Thom Gardner and the website is www.graceandtruthfellowship.com I've been quite impressed with the Godly foundation for this type of ministry.

Yes, and the difference is the emphasis put on God, not the human. Good stuff. Just get at the framework, and leave the bones.

Sounds more humanistic than anything.
Sounds like Thom Gardner is a good name b/c we all need to be the gardners in the soil of minds and if seeds have been sowed in our minds in childhood then as a result we need to cultivate the good produce there, while weeding out the bad seeds, not by following after that evil with our thoughts, but let go by bringing it captive to Christ. And plant seeds of the good kind , cutivated by following after those thoughts instead of the evil ones.

I suppose that, like most everything, the longer the ministry went on having success, the more worldly principles crept into it.

Sometimes I think we fiddle too much with the simple things God gives us. :D

Don’t let the term “Theophositic” scare you. It is simply a compound word from “Theos” (God) and “phosphos” (light) and means “God’s Light” Prayer Ministry. It seems to me to be nothing more than a form/technique of prayer ministry that may no more/less valid that any other more traditional form.

But what I’m beginning to see in this thread is that if it didn’t originate with Word-Faith preacher it can’t possibly be the truth.

Not true. And I hope I have not given the wrong impression. I think this ministry is very much needed in the body of Christ. In a nutshell, it is the idea of the sanctification process. My only problem with it is the absolute fact that it has leaned into, and is now widely accepted primarily because of the fact that it incorporated so much psychobabble.

God will sanctify, and He doesn't need human "intelligence" to do it.
