In my personal experience the only thing I am required to do in dealing with it is to hand it over to God and not to pick it back up... most of the time when we try to deal with something we are attempting to do so with our own strength, ability and knowledge... something I am not strong enough for, capable enough to do, or smart enough to accomplish...

Do you have to deal with all your issues before excepting Christ? Does He require us to already be clean before we come to Him? I tried to deal with my hurts and pains and those experiences that wounded me... Digging up a corpse not something I need to do. 1st key in giving these hurts and pains over to the Lord is to forgive those who caused the problem (sometimes that is ourselves) not relive the past. Hind sight is nearly always 20/20, we can get caught in a undertoe of would'a should'a could'a's by dealing with this stuff and play directly into the enemies devices. Give it wholely and willingly to God and let Him deal with it...

Dynaric, someone who spent far to many years dealing with the things from my past, instead of handing it over once and for all...
Actually, this could perhaps be another thread? I shouldn't have said anything to Lismore because I disrespected the original topic of this thread. I would be glad to respond in another thread.

Lismore, you mentioned a Theosophic Society at school -- good point. That's different than Theophostic, although it trips me up whenever I bump into it.

Theosophy is a mixture of eastern religions and self-empowerment theories. Theosophics can also be Spiritualists, comfortably admitting ties to the occult. They can use parts of Christianity, but mix the good points of many religions to solidify their view of Truth.

Theophostic has different roots -- its purpose was Christian counseling. Having read Whitedove's and Askamom's stories, though, I wonder if it has more similarities to Theosophy than it admits.

How do you move on Lismore if you don't deal with them? Can't go forward until it is deal with, can you?

Excellent point, NS. So much of what I read in this forum seems to want to reject or ignore things without investigating them. We are told to “test all things” so that we may “hold fast” only that which is “good” and “abstain from every form of evil” (1 Thess. 5.21-22). As far as Theophosy is concerned, it seems to be a method of prayer that is only different in style (not necessarily in substance) from many tried-and-true methods of prayer/ministry we effectively use today.

Of course, like any method, it can be misused by zealots.

I think I have met those zealots that misused them.

I never heard of Theophosy until you brought it up and I reviewed the site. I would like to hear more opinions on it as well as review more of it in detail before I toss out the idea of it being something to run from.

It has been discussed at length on general theology, Perhaps take it up there.

How do you move on Lismore if you don't deal with them? Can't go forward until it is deal with, can you?

Well, I have had past hurts and dissapointments, depressions, rejections, anxieities, suicidal thoughts etc as I expect many have had.

I cant deal with them. Its too much.

I have to move forward and get to Jesus because Jesus is the only person that could deal with them and he has. I took them to Jesus and I was made whole. Its so easy when you go to Jesus!

Before that I had 'Christian counselling', driving out demons I didnt have, generational curses that were made up, bitter roots, rejection in the womb, every imaginable nonsense, in the ned I said things I didnt know or mean to get these counsellors to shut up, soul ties blah blah blah, that stuff made everything 1000 times worse.

But the truth is that Jesus is the only counsellor and he is the wonderful counsellor (Is 9). He is the wonderful counsellor, because there is no other wonderful counsellor. He is the man!

Jim, I was in some theophostic training, and have used it some in ministering to those who have been abused , by family members, occult practices etc. While i can see what white dove had happen to her as terrible, I , personally, was taught that repentance, first of all had to happen, no sin could stand in the way between a person and God. It was the same Jesus whom was born of a virgin birth, crucified, and rose again. The Holy Spirit also plays a part, but in my experience, it took the focus off the counselor, and put the focus on Jesus , where it should be, as the one doing the ministering. Sometimes, when one has been abused , and sometimes repeatedly and severely, they blame God for not stopping it, thinking he was just not caring enough, and could care less what was happening to them at that time. It is these cases, that the person is asked to pray, and ask Jesus, or God to show them where they were or why they didnt stop it, and to bring peace about the situation. Everyone questions why sometimes. And people get angry at God a lot more than they will say, if they are honest about it .Anyways, that is my experience with it , I do not use occultic practices with it, and so far, have seen no paranoia or anxiety because of it . As with all thing, God must come first and be in control of it .
God Bless.:)

I suspect that most of the Christian counseling organizations are simply a way to contain and standardize what is already being done in churches. So many churches have lay counselors, formal or informal, who give varied advice without training.

Lack of professional training is not always bad, but I think these organizations train church members to make sure there aren't wacko opinions and harmful tactics being thrown around behind the doors of confidentiality.

I doubt it's a cult, or a money-grubbing organization, from what I see.
