I heard an interesting thing yesterday by Ray Comfort, an evangelist. He wasn't discussing alcoholism but sin and coming to Christ; so it is significant what he said:
"People first have to be convinced of the disease before they will be ready to understand or embrace the cure." He has himself used the analogy of disease to describe sin. The same can be said of alcoholism: an alcoholic must first be convinced of the disease of being powerless over alcohol before they can understand or embrace the cure. Sin and disease have similarities. The latter proceeds from the former.
