  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can accept that there was a man called Jesus, that he was a philosopher of sorts and that he was crucified.
I do not accept that he was the son of God.

I believe in God, but I do not believe in the Bible, not as an object (before anyone starts being snarky) or as a religious guidebook.
You believe in any of the supernatural, or the miraculous that it records happening?

If it is man-made, then why do you allow the Bible to prevent you from believing in a God?, then why the miracles? they all lies too?

God Bless!

Because the Bible does not speak for God. It speaks OF God, but not for Him.
It's a collection of morality tales at best in the Old Testament and philosophical thinkings in the New Testament.

Yeah but if it doesn't really matter cause you believe mean were speaking...

If you don't put a grain of salt with the God of the Bible, then it should not prevent you, or sway you from deciding whether or not there is a God or not, Right?

No. Where is it written, anywhere, that I have to believe the Bible to believe in God?

Why is this so important to you?
Why is me not believing in the Bible while still accepting God such a thorn in your side?
Cause I have (and have had) that same problem before (in my walk with Christ),

I thought I saw a ray of hope for a non-believer... It is not a thorn in my side, but umm... OK,

God Bless!

Well since you have felt the need to ask me about, it must have irked you in some way, otherwise you wouldn't have commented on it.

No, It doesn't specifically say, so, can you believe in a God without the Bible, Yes you can, you can follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit (your conscience)...

God Bless!

I'd say you could believe in the Holy Spirit and follow in his will, without the Bible at all...

Believing without Jesus to get you into heaven, not sure how that will work out though...

God Bless!

No, You didn't "irk" me in any way, struck my curiousity about you though...

God Bless!

I'd go in to my reason for not believing in the Bible but that'd derail this thread too much.

Perhaps you could tell us, Warden, where your belief in God stems from; if not the Bible?

Are you privvy to a source of data/information that we aren't?

I am not going to answer that question because it's irrelevant to the OP topic.

QV, Av161? I assume you mean quote verse. If not, let me know. Try Gen. 2:7. I'm surprised you didn't already know that verse.
Are you still harping on this?

QV please:

Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it;

Question:

Which did God form first? the heavens or the earth?

See also ...

Genesis 2:4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

By your logic, should I assume one man authored the first part of that sentence, and another man authored the second part?

Am I still harping on this, AV161? My question is what are you still harping on here. I have no idea how you reached some strange conclusion that by my own logic there are two guys here. That appears to me to be totally irrelevant to the discussion. Also, I don't see what asking abut whether the heavens or the earth were created first has to do with anything I said. What I did say about cretin was that genesis is ambiguous on this point. Anyone who has carefully read it will see that it isn't clear whether God creates out of nothing or some preexistent chaos. I don't know if you are referring to the fact I argue Genesis consists of two different accounts by two different authors. If so, I still don't see what your reply has to do with this at all.
