  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was on an end of the world site once and I joked that I was digging a hole in the ground. The guy reacted very serious on how I should do that and everything I should buy to stay alive.
I won't be surprised if it happens, according to a prophecy you are most safe in Africa: http://www.inthebeginning.com/articles/norway1968.htm, but I don't care. If God wants me to be here and die, fine, I go to heaven earlier. I'm only spiritually preparing, for the rest I don't care. If there comes a crisis we'll pray for mannah.
Wasn't that sort of the end in 2012: where South Africa was the new central location for survivors?

Oh I don't know. I remember hearing a prophecy on youtube in 2010 that the world was going to end in 2012 and I wasn't a believer anymore at the time and living together with someone and that man on youtube could count the exact day from Bible verses and since I believe a lot I believed that. I hysterically screamed to my friend that we had to convert now!!!!!!! He was asleep and woke up irritated saying I was an idiot.

Yea..we had soooo many silly books published on it at the public library where I worked. After 2012 came and went, I think they had to do a lot of weeding.

Well, im sure the basement prolly still has copies of 88 reasons the rapture will be in 1988.

If you spiritually prepared, you have nothing to fear.

In all fairness, the Old Testament does contain many elements of oral literature. They're better seen in the Hebrew (as you know since, as I remember, you have a degree in theology), but to say that most of it was written for the first time in Babylon is unreasonable. It also ignores references to finding the book of the law and several other books which have since been lost. Editing during the Exile is very likely; major composition is unlikely.
My biggest objection was the "Babylonian exile" point. I have little problem with orality. Many cultures were and are oral ones and pass down (with little variation) accounts, stories, or myths by "story telling".

Weeding's a weird process in libraries: they usually would cut out older editions as well as those that might not be checked out at all in the last few years

I always wonder how people miss the part in the Bible "While studying extensively" as all these people supposedly do.... how they miss the specific words of Jesus, no man knows the day... not even the Son.

And "He will come like a thief in the night". Meaning, no one will expect His return on the day it happens.

I hear doomsday predictions and I simply laugh.

I wish I had talked to you then, Id have calmed you down.

People have been predicting the end since the beginning, while I do believe the end will come.... I can pretty much promise, it will NOT be on the days that all these "ITS THE END!!" predictions say.

In my life time alone, we have had more "real threats" to the end of days as I have had decades on this Earth.

Y2K, Mayan calender ending, 9/11, the predictions from youtube folks, blood moon 2015.... etc.

Ha yes I know those texts, but this funny guy said: yes indeed we do not know the day or the hour but we can know the year and the month and then it was with a Jewish feast either this or that day, lol.

I know this is off-topic, and I'm not sorry! Old Testament literary studies is one of my favourite subjects. But with consideration for the competition of @Saucy and @Miss Spaulding, I'll make this my last. :p

According to Jewish tradition, the Pentateuch (Torah) was written between 1312 BCE and 1280 BCE. Ancient Aramaic didn't become a distinctive alphabet until around the 8th century BCE. The earliest phase of the Babylonian Captivity took place after 605 BCE. The First Temple was destroyed around 587 BCE, Jerusalem was sacked and burned. So, most of the books of the Old Testament would have been written, re-written during the captivity. I cant remember off the top of my head at the moment, but there is a passage in the Old Testament which talks about when they were released from captivity, one of the important things they did was to gather the books. They would need them when they built the Second Temple.

Oh ok.
But william seems to actually have a real fallout shelter. He said he made one.

I did build one. But, I grew up as a survivalist. A nuclear explosion is just one scenario. I do this for natural disasters, ,man made disasters.

When it comes to the end, the bible makes it clear there is no hiding from the wrath of God. People will try to kill themselves and won't be able to. They'll try to run from the face of God and won't be able to. And the world will be destroyed with fire. It couldn't anything. Nuclear blast, asteroid strike, the sun, or supernatural.

If you study history, you will find out that there was very little "building" just before the years six hundred sixty-six and also before the year 1000. Why? Because people believed that the world would end. But, over the centuries since our Lord and Savior died for us, there have been countless man-made and natural disasters.

Those are what I make myself prepare for. I don't worry about what will happen when Jesus returns because He promised to take me home before that.

Why are you not at Survivalistboards.com instead of here. These guys are not survivalist they are normal. Did Robert send you here? Let him know I am not some prepper nut job, I am normal.

Now lets get down to being normal. Are your friends M1's Garand's or Carbines? I use an Israel gas mask with 40mm NBC filters, what do you use? I am looking for some good priced M40's that are new production, know of any at a good price? Does your IFAK have a chest decompression needle?

I am not a prepper but I am somebody who will bug out and never come back and produce a new place where ever I go. I may even cross the Bering Strait and settle in the vast wilderness of western Russia.

Do you think a Plum campers axe is as good of chopper as a good Gransfors Burks Scandinavian Forest Axe?

Ummm, what? Who is Robert?

My uncle has both. He bought them surplus in 1946 along with a bunch of other surplus stuff.

Yes, along with hemostatic agent, a field surgical kit, Nasopharyngeal, among other things Im not going to mention here. I have separate M-95 and M-40 masks, and a full NBC hazmat kit with a positive pressure airflow.

I never divulge where I get my firearms. As I said, I don't like the term prepper.

well, the house I'm living in is made of brick and will have to do.
All the other houses around as are made of wood so will easily burn if volcano erupts or there's a fire. Earthquakes have flattened other towns..but, its most likely going to be cyclones or tsunami for us Aucklanders. (and volcanoes).

Oh, one time it actually snowed (but not where I was) and..snow pretty much stops everything down south. And floods.

I don't fancy eating tinned food..after cleaning everything out of the fridge, there will always be rice and other staples, plus the stuff we grow in the garden. I will survive.

We're already getting fried by the hole in the ozone layer.
