I do not miss driving around looking for a phone booth. My iPhone has GPS and Internet access.

In the mid 1960's my dad was stationed at a military base in Europe. We went to a farmer's market where people had their chickens slaughtered fresh as the market did not have refrigeration.

These are the good old days.
The deadly asian bird flue is believed to come from the live markets they currently have in cities.

People spend more time texting than talking.

People rely too much on tech because when a server goes down, you can not bank or buy food at times.

In an emergency, and you can crawl to your phone for help, are you going for the push button on the desk you can easily press 911, or your touch phone you have to enter a password, not mistap to do it again, wait for the phone program to loan and hope it does not crash, and pray you got a signal and you paid some money into it (I do prepaid, can not afford unlimited).

Kids play more video games than sports. Growing up, i play video games all the time (days of Atari and Nintendo) but I was out doing basketball, paintball, and night time vigilante stuff. I was active.
> Fun fact... I was a 1990 Nintendo World Championship semifinalist.
> Fun fact 2... I never played World of Warcraft.

Movies and cartoons were more, shall I say it? If I do, it might offend some people....
ORIGINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MTV was that. Music videos.

Humans spend more time social networking online, than face to face networking, or phone calls. Me, I got no friends on or offline. I am too much of an introverted antisocialist to even do social networking (besides, I do not need an abusive person to be stalking me right now).
> Fun fact... I once tried to get a group of introverts together for a club, but no one came.

The 1980s.... the tubular times.

When music was less about sex and love and more.... wait, never mind. Still was..

A time when wondering if an EMP in your area would shut down your life or not.

A time when you an walk into a Mom/Pop place and feel like family, or into Toys R Us with your child and torture them on what you can not afford. Now, you order things without actually touching it first, and you eat at big name restaurants that overcharge.

And, there were a lot more trees and less people on this planet. I MISS THAT!!

I miss the 1980s, and the 1800s.... good times.... good times.

You might not believe this, But I used to call somewhere and an actual person [who spoke english] would pick up and try to help you.
Not the automated press one, turn around, twist, press two, do the hokey pokey and press three now.
Sigh!!!!

agree

try calling info to get your neighbor's phone number
totally impossible!

their name is extremely difficult to pronounce and no matter how hard I tried to pronounce it carefully, the automated system couldn't understand me

The world used to be so much less noisy. Now its wall to wall media (internet, phones, ipads, radio, television, "augmented reality", ect) and endless bustle (cars, trains, planes, rocketing around the world in their millions at hundreds of miles an hour).

Yes, totally. I forgot to mention that one in my rant! I hated auto attendants since they came out. When I call a number, I should be able to get an English speaking human (for an American based company let me say) when I press 0 once not 100 times (and I have counted). By the time I am done yelling at it "human," "customer service," "non-electronic organism," and to the likes (even when I know it is not going to do anything but I am angry), and when it is ready to "transfer you to a service rep," I then get this message..."Sorry, we closed or we just hanging up on you. Leave us alone. Good bye."

Oh, just remembered, I tried 411 the other day, and I got a machine answering for me to pick choices. :lost:

Well, I got 2 calls from a pay phone (thank you caller ID!) and they were within less than a minute apart. I answered and there was only silence but I could hear that someone was there. Maybe I should've called them back? LOL

There is a scam over here that they call and ask is whatever your name is, I will use "Sam" They will call and say I am looking for Sam, Is Sam your name? and when you say yes they will record it and use it to release your credit info. Sigh!! technology

They didn't say anything and it did sound like a pay phone. I'm just wondering if they got their numbers mixed up. We get alot of those calls! People think we're a bank! ^_^ Oh, I'm very wary of those scammers. Most times I don't even answer if I don't recognize the number. If it's important, they'll leave a message. If not, don't waste my time!

Should have said, "Yes, Sam I am."

If I got the time, I play with them. The most recent (last year) was a guy, not American or in America) tell me my ISP says I have a virus and they need my credit info to fix it. Being in IT for decades, I just could not resist... I explained to him that the ISP would not give a frak about my computers really, and just disconnect me on their end. Also, they would identify themselves if they did call. He kept going and going about it but eventually he broke down crying tell me that he had to take this job and lie to people to support his family. I can understand the human need to protect a family, but not by hurting others purposely. I told him he needs to be asking God for help and to find a better job (not that we can in America either as it took me over six years to find decent [semi-survivable, but not livable] pay after a layoff, but at least try). That call lasted over 20m. I had many like that over the years, especially if they call from the IRS. Those are "fun" calls to play with.
FYI to anyone that needs to know, the IRS will not call you. If they want your money they will get it (immorally with their powers) and they can access your bank accounts and pay on their own. They at least notify you months later on why they "think" they can.

Speaking of which, this video is great!

I loved the 80s. We still had the farm and yet had fairly new and quality equipment. I am probably the only boy who ever wanted a jacked up 4x4 and a black and gold Trans Am like smokey and the bandits at the same time. lol
We still farm. We also had late model equipment then, some even new. Most of mine today is still of that vintage. Keeps getting tougher.

We also remember a time when TV signed off at about 2:00 in the morning, then signed back on about three or four hours later. A prerecorded announcer would call the end of the broadcast day, give other station info, then launch into a special song (usually patriotic) before going to test pattern or "snow". The signon was basically the same thing, except after the special music the programming would start. Sometimes I would watch the TV sign on while waiting for the cartoons in the morning. I would actually watch the test pattern (the one with the "Indian Head"); it played soothing and relaxing music and was a very pleasant thing to listen to. We just don't get that anymore.

These versions of the Star Spangled Banner were used often during these signoffs and signons. Some here may remember.

One of my favorite Websites specializes in old TV signoff (and sometimes signon) clips from TV stations all over United States. I find it pretty interesting.

I remember growing up in the 70's & 80's I remember it was way better then what the world is today, people are more meaner & rude, & sometimes people don't care about you

50s 60s 70s and 80s were great.

Kids today will never know.

Trump is trying to
Make America Great Again.

Uphill battle for him.
