Think about how much energy would be required to raise mountains, over the course of a year?
Where did it come from? Where did it go?

Thank you for pointing that out I missed the changes in the heights of mountains and any geothermal action.

I should say this is a complicated question at best but, it is interesting in that a model may be developed which balances the energy to within a few degree temperature change. By doing this a general idea what amount of water would be in the canopy.

The temperature conditions of the polar regions would have to be considered of course.
