I think that the entire belief stems from the idea that if the Bible is supposed to be the infallible word of God, how can there be multiple versions of it? There has to be *one* final authority. Thus, only one translation can be correct ("things that are different are not the same"). For some reason the KJV has been identified as the correct one.

Yeah. I am personally totally unconvinced that everything in the Bible is *true*. I agree that all Scripture is "suitable for teaching", but some of it may be suitable for teaching "here is something people used to believe".

Still... If I were to pick a version to be inerrant, it would be OT in Hebrew, and NT in various bits of Greek and Aramaic. Past that, it's all us... And the fact is, there are a lot of things in there which require enough "interpretation" that I feel more honest just saying "it's a good starting point, but pay attention".

That said, I'm getting *REAL* sick of that guy with his constant accusations that the NIV is "lying" because it's different.

It looks like I'll be having a lot of fun in the "how important is the Bible" thread. I converted for reasons not based on the Bible, and I remain convinced that, given the choice between Christ and the Bible, Christ is more important. I think some people seem to think that a Bible is some kind of magic talisman that allows God to reach you, and if you don't have one and read it constantly, He is powerless to speak to you.

Friendly reminder...posts like that usually construe a personal attack akin to questioning of salvation.

First Cor....(blah)-- I think it was Christmas Eve or sometime near there when I started a thread  asking 'Do the Gospels teach Once saved Always saved'--after the thread was volleyed from forum to forum ( the admin's decided it shouldn't be in the apologetics forum--I think it went from TheWord--to Fellowship--back to Apologetics)--First Cor asked me why an 'RCC apologist would want to start a thread on something (salvation) that could not be attained outside of the Catholic Church'.

I told him it wasn't necessarily a Catholic matter and that I would argue it from purely  the Scriptures  if that would make him happy...(even though I pointed out that it was hypocritical to use their 'apologetics' forum to slam Catholics, but they wouldn't let a Catholic start a thread on OSAS) I went on to mention that he had a tendancy to make everything a Catholic matter...  then he closed down the thread.

Oh well.

Shoot, and I'm missing it.  I've had her on ignore since they went to V-Bulletin. ;)

You guys are doing a great job there.  I was going to post the smiley banging it's head against the wall but I figured I'd get a warning from 1Cor or someone else.  I gotta wonder where these people get their Catholic teachings from because it isn't the Catholic Church or the CCC.
