Hey, everybody, the drugstore was open for like three hours, and they had strings of Christmas lights on sale. So, like, I got a bunch of the red-purple-yellow-green-blue strings, and I'm stringing 'em up around the ceiling. Makes the place a little more festive.

Any of you able to carve? Maybe we could have an ice-sculpture-tree.

I checked out that thread. Some people need to lighten up. I believe God gave us a sense of humor as a coping mechanism.

And there is NOTHING wrong with being silly. How on earth do you communicate with a nine-month-old baby without being silly? I mean, have you ever LOOKED at an adult trying to make a baby laugh? Last night at Midnight Mass, there was an ADORABLE baby across the aisle from us. The lady in front of me and my husband and I were all wiggling eyebrows, blowing kisses, making faces, just to watch her crack up.

"Silly" is sticking scotch tape on the cat's paws and then screaming with laughter as he dances down the hall trying to shake it off. Silly is making someone laugh with a mouthful of food, waiting to see if milk squirts out his nose. Silly is trying to keep a straight face while your sister is kicking your foot in church. Silly is deliberately keeping your eyes open for nonsense in the world, because laughter is so good for you.

Thank GOD for silly!

You got it, seebs. Same thing came up once in my husband's family. The menfolk decided to take the feller aside for a little 'chat'. They let him know in no uncertain terms that they were very upset about his treatment of their female relative and that if it happened again they could promise that things wouldn't be nearly so civil. Afterwards he only needed minor medical attention, but seems to have had a miraculous attitude adjustment. Apparently he only needed to gain a little perspective of what it's like to be on the receiving end.

By the way, did you see the Christmas Mass broadcast on CNN? It was rather late (about 2:00 AM my time) but they broadcast much of it, even the reading of the Gospel. I'm not Catholic (don't worry anyone! ) but I admit that it was beautiful.

Way KEWL on how your male family members handled the problem, Zoo!

My mother told my sister and me about our GREAT-grandmother. She had a houseful of kids, a farm to care for, and a husband who worked in the mines. Said husband (the great-grandfather, but at that time, he sure wasn't so great!) would take his money on payday and head to the local tavern. After the paycheck was gone and he was full of beer, he'd stumble home to the family and exercise his husbandly rights by beating the shinola out of his wife. After such activities, he would naturally be exhausted and would fall into sleep.

My great-grandmother, God bless her soul, finally decided that "enough was enough." After the one-sided boxing match was over and the man of the house was sawing logs, she took the iron skillet and beat the tar out of him.

Family legend says he was a model husband afterwards.

Momma raised both her daughters that NO woman tolerates abuse. As Momma put it, "He's gotta sleep SOMETIME."

God bless Momma, too.

Feliz Navidad mis amigos!    For the first time since 1975, Northwest Arkansas enjoyed a White Christmas We had 8 inches here on the ground and it's still here.  It probably won't start metling until Saturday or Sunday when the temperatures leave the 20s and rise into the low 50s.  It was beautiful and something I won't forget.  My little boy loved it (my daughter's just too young--just under a year old). 

I hope everyone had a great holiday.  Wols, on your advice (if you remember), I got "The Mass of the Early Christians"  as a present.  Looking forward to reading it.  I sure hope everyone's children enjoyed opening their presents.  I know mine did.  This Christmas is probably the first one where my 4 year old knew what was going on.  The look on his face Christmas morning when he saw that Santa had really come was priceless, one I won't forget.

"hentai" is Japanese for "pervert"; it's also used to refer to various pornographic manga and anime. If you really want to know, drop me an email to my "real" account, I don't think I can even *describe* the stuff without hitting the censor filter.

Well, I sort of can. Two words: Tentacle porn.

And yes, it really is as bad as it sounds.

BTW, folks, meet Texas Lynn. She's new at CF, and she's having the predictable run-ins with a few people who figure that God's too busy to do any judging and they'll just fill in for Him; I figured I'd invite her to come visit the Freezer, in case she needs to blow off steam.
