There are a lot of people out there that do not know what love is and entails. It’s a lot of work and commitment.

And so are you. Pray for God’s discernment and strength. He made you for better things and knows the desires of your heart. Do not settle for anything less. There are times when you can still love, forgive and wish someone the best but know it’s just simply time to move on. Pray about it. There are a lot of fish in the sea. I know in my faith tradition it seems like a perfect situation for an annulment. That’s when people marry when they are not either mature enough or marry under false pretenses, abuse, etc. Pray about it and ask God to guide you.

Sometimes I think my mom is trying to be selfish by preventing me from spending my own money. I'm not doing anything selfish or irrational with my money. It makes me mad and it's one of those control things she does on me.

Boy do i hear ya on that one. I can't imagine how my mother would flip out if she knew how much of my own hard-earned money through an average of 4 twelve-hour shifts a week that I was using these days to help provide for someone else. And had once done for at least a year for some a couple of folk in the past.

And all I know to say to anyone who would question why I am doing that is, well, I just feel it is the right thing to do when I have no spouse or kids of my own, and there is probably a reason why (at least as I was told when I was younger) my middle name apparently means "abundant provider". ... My first name also vaguely means "protector". ^-^

So, point is, so long as you aren't doing anything irrational with your own money, Peaceful, no one else should really have any opinion on it at all. Only if you were repeatedly and belligerently irresponsible with it and went to your mom or anyone else just expecting to be bailed out when you got into big trouble financially. .... which clearly you aren't.

But I suppose you are not going to be that extreme with your own mother, are you?

I have this really strong philosophy that after someone in my country turns 18, they are of legal adult age and they are the masters of their own destinies from then on out. I guess my philosophy comes from how fiercely independent I am, and I really don't want anyone running my own life except God and myself. If a parent interferes in someone's life after they turn 18, then I can get really angry.

Sorry. Very few things in this world make me angry (I am usually so agreeable), but parental interference after one is an adult, and arranged marriages both upset me and make me angry.

People should marry for love and only love. Nothing else. Not because your parents say so, but because you love your partner and you make that decision on your own to wed him/her.

There. I have given my opinion. I'm sure you didn't ask for it, but hey, there it is anyway.

She has dementia? Uh oh. Does she want to be formally diagnosed so you guys can find out for sure?

Or maybe she will resist? Some older people do that because of the fear of being put into a nursing home.

My mom is gradually losing her memory too. But she is 66. I have no idea at what age Dementia is supposed to appear in the elderly. I would have to ask a doctor that question.
