Yes, yes, back by popular demand, this thread created by Gurney a few years back has returned. If you liked the Underailable Thread Part I, just wait until you see Part II! Action-packed, guaranteed....

Any random thing, bit of information, odd observation, joke, minutia, or anecdote is allowed. The only rule about the Underailable Thread Club is don't talk about the Underailable Thread Club.

My first observation is this....why on God's green Earth would ANYBODY name their daughter Fredericka? Discuss....lol

They really liked St. Frederick of Utrecht but had a daughter instead of a son, and instead of changing to a different name they doubled-down and went with Fredericka.

Names ...

Teaching so many classes, I see names.

Yesterday I saw one named Lucky Charms. I try to be careful when calling the roll not to potentially embarras any child whose peers might not know their full name. (I just said Lucky)

But I also had to call out for Julia Roberts yesterday.

Some parents want a particular name but can't spell it, meaning I will almost certainly mispronounce it.

Some parents pull in the most exotic pronunciation rules.

Some parents seem determined that NO ONE else will have the same name as their child - if need be by using lots of Q's, Z's, and several apostrophes in the child's name.

And some days (like yesterday) ... almost every child in class seems to fit into one of these categories ... and the roll provided by the office was a little blurry.

Obviously those parents never stood at a kiosk/display rack trying to find their own name, or the name of their child, on the memento/souvenir item that was a 'must have'.
e.g. the bike license plate, or key ring, or the amusement park hat/t-shirt... etc

I know. The whole personalized-stuff industry may be going down the tubes. I rarely ever see a Christopher, Laura, Steve, or Melissa.

Dwain Pipe
Laurelle Anne Hardy
Mary Christmas
brothers Anthony and Peter Nuss (roll call used the first initial and surname)
Michael Hunt (has anybody seen Mike H...?)

I have not yet come across Hugh Janus or Hugh Jarse.
