Many people think the Ten Commandments are unique only to Mt.Sinai, this is false and leads to many misinterpretations.

The Bible tells us how the Law was added because of transgression. The words, (because of transgression) identify the fact that the Law was being violated before it was written in stone. This tells us that either the Law was made known to the people prior to Mt.Sinai or the principles of the Law was part of their created being as people made in God's image.

Well, we know that long before Mt.Sinai mankind lied, commited adultery, coveted, murdered and so on and were condemned as guilty before God and man.

We also know that Gentiles, who were never phyiscally given the Law on stone, as Israel was given it, did by nature that which was contained in the Law.

Romans 2:14-15 for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them.

These are very important truths to grasp. The Law of God is part of the very fabric of His creation but man, created with free will, chooses to resist that which is part of his very being. Even Abraham, the father of the faith, obeyed the voice of God and kept His commandments and Laws.

Genesis 26:5 "because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws."

God's plan, in the New Covenant, is to redeem and restore a people who will keep His commandments because they love Him. A holy nation and peculiar people He can call His own.

Hebrews 8:10 "For this is the new covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

This is the foundation of the New Covenant, God writing His whole Law in our heart and we manifesting it in our lives through love, just like Jesus did.

Revelation 14:2 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

When this is done, God will have a people who will be keeping His commandments because the love of God, which has been poured into them through the indwelling Spirit, will empower them to do so.

It's these people who will be justifed in the end.

Romans 2:13 for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified.

k4c,

Loving our neighbor as ourselves is the completion of the law. This is one word. This is doing.

Loving the Lord, our God, with all of our possessions is the foundation of the law. This is one word. This is believing.
