Psalms 119
11 ¶
Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee
.
133 ¶
Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Overcome the world with the word of God. Meditate, or "ruminate" on the law of God. The Hebrew word for meditate is "ruminate" or to chew the cud. This means to take something into your belly, digest it, bring it back up, and chew it again
. If you do this with the law you will begin to defeat your body and flesh with the Word.

A number of years ago I bought a copy of Young's Literal Translation of the Bible. Young handles verb tenses very accurately, and his translation offers some excellent insights. Look at something I found in line with our discussion:

Exodus 20 (YLT)
3 `Thou hast no other Gods before Me.

(Note the tense in these verses. They are presented, not so much as commandments, as they are confessions of faith by God about us!)

4 `Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, ...
7 `Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing ...
13 `Thou dost not murder.
14 `Thou dost not commit adultery.
15 `Thou dost not steal.
16 `Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony.

These sound very much like the creative statements of God. "let there be light... etc..) This is how God intends for the righteous spirit of Christ within you to overcome the flesh. If you find you have particular areas that bother you, speak out of your spirit to those areas and bring them into line. (See the course on "how to prophesy" for instructions on how to speak out of the spirit of Christ in you). God intends for you to overcome the flesh, and has given you the tools to do this.

Take what is inside you and put it on the outside:

Eph 4:
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

How do you do this?
Lets look at some more references.

James three is talking about the evil which the tongue can do, but in these words is also a great truth.

THE TONGUE CAN CONTROL THE BODY!

James 3
1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. {condemnation: or, judgment}
2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same [is] a perfect man, [and] able also to bridle the whole body.
3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
4 Behold also the ships, which though [they be] so great, and [are] driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! {a matter: or, wood}

Again
, James is speaking of the negative aspect of what the tongue can do. But look at the positive things the tongue can do:

"...the same is a perfect man..." "...and able also to bridle the whole body..." "...we turn about (the) whole body..."

Look at this understanding:

"...thought they (lusts) are driven of fierce winds (of the body) , yet are they (lusts) turned about with a very small helm (the tongue, the speaking of faith) , whithersoever the governor (the spirit of Christ in you) listeth..."

Can you see the power the word spoken from your spirit has over your body? Faith overcomes
sin
. The power of faith is released by allowing the spirit to speak the words that are believed. You must speak to your body and bring it into subjection. There is no other way for your spirit to extend it's will over the body.

[size=+1]Faith that works through love availeth much...[/size]

Look at what Paul said to the Galatians in the famous fruit of the spirit chapter:

Galatians 5
5 For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
6 For
in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

The OT law was the outward attempt to be righteous with the soul and the flesh. The New Covenant "availeth" by "faith that works through love". It is the spirit bringing the flesh into subjection by the love spoken word. The confession of what is written on the heart.

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

16 [This] I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. {ye...: or, fulfill not}
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

If we were to take this list of works and crucify them on the cross of Christ by faith (rather than by will power), we would allow our spirits to speak the faith confessions from out of our love:

Thou dost not commit adultery
Thou dost not fornicate (very good for those ensnared in porn)
Thou dost not commit uncleanness
Thou dost not commit lasciviousness
Thou dost not commit idolatry
Thou dost not engage in witchcraft
Thou dost not hate
Thou dost not commit variance
Thou dost not engage in emulations
Thou dost not engage in strife
Thou dost not engage in seditions
Thou dost not commit heresies
Thou dost not envy
Thou dost not murder
Thou dost not engage in drunkenness
Thou dost not engage in revellings

Remember that this is not simply speaking these things out of you soul, or memory. Reading this out loud over and over
again is not faith or the confession of faith. You must speak these things out of your spirit. This will be the voice of your conscience. When you are tempted or are grieved at a particular sin
, you will feel or perceive the leading of your spirit on this matter. In your heart you will not want to do these things. SPEAK out of that leading. Just feeling it will not do it. It is faith that works through love that availeth much. Speak to your flesh and it will be crucified. If you are grieved because of a problem you may have with porn, you would speak out of the grief, and say (to you flesh): "Thou dost not fornicate". If you are grieved by a tendency toward being bitter, you might speak out of that grief and say (to you flesh): "Thou dost not engage in hate".

Galatians 5
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. {affections: or, passions}
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

The Bible says that the the law has been written on our hearts.

Roma 2:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and [their] thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;) {their conscience...: or, the conscience witnessing with them} {the mean...: or, between themselves}

We have love in our hearts, which is expressed in the form of our conscience speaking.

[size=+1]Faith that works through love availeth much.[/size]

Speak out of the love of the spirit of Christ in you. Speak what is written on your heart. The words of God are written on you heart. speak these words to yourself, your body, your soul.

There is an ancient form of treaty writing dealing with two parties - the winner and the loser. Most times the loser was permitted to remain in power but be under the rule of the victor (like the Jews were to Rome). This is the kind of treaty we see in the establishment of the Old Covenant. God is the greater and we are the lesser, so God sets the terms of the treaty (the victor determined treaty terms). This is how the decalogue is set up: not as commandments, per se, but as terms of a treaty. God the victor will watch over us, but we have certain behavioral obligations under the treaty.

Also, the ancient treaties involved a seal, which would be placed in the middle of the document. It was supposed to be a sign that reminded the vassal of the one they now served. Many times they would make an image of the suzerains god, or some other statue to show their loyalty to the new suzerain.

The seal of the ten Commandments is the Sabbath. The people were to express their exclusive loyalty to God by honoring and keeping the Sabbath (since they could not make an image of God- although they did try at Mt. Sinai).

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.Matthew5:19

The whole idea of Faith is to show love for God, Faith produces Love, then this love produces his good fruits which are his commandments. You cannot have faith without showing how you love God. To abide in him is real Faith

Chirst asked us to abide in him and with Faith if we love him we follow the commandments.

Love for Christ on the part of believers is to be manifested in obedience to his commands

How do you show Chirst love with your Faith?

Faith saves us but we are judged on according to HOW we abided in this faith.

John:14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Matthew 22:36-38
35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

There were more than just ten commandments. There were, I believe, about 613 commandments. As we see in Galatians 3:10, "All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: 'Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law." If it were possible, one could attain righteousness by observing everything written in the book of the law. The point, however, is that it's not possible. At all. In and of himself, man cannot keep God's law, nor is he even inclined to do so. Our nature is more inclined to seek its own good, rather than seek God. The apostle Paul affirmed that "the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so" (Romans 8:7).

Romans 7:15-25; Galations 5:13-18; Matthew 19:16-26; etc.

God gave 10 commandments and if you are following the first one loving God with all your heart you abide in the rest.

Faith produces LOVE, and Love Produces Fruits, Dont you produce good fruits for Christ , these are his rightous followers who have Faith.

Someone with real faith and love for Christ go to church, it is a commandment, weather its Saturday or Sunday for the person this is how we honor our Faith in Christ.

Grace does not place us above Gods moral Laws or commandments.

If someone is teaching you ... Faith is just to believe in Christ, the Bible tells us a different story. It tells us Faith and Love produce good fruits for christ. you must abide in his commandments, which are not grevious as he has told us.

By anything we do? Are we justified by anything we do? Are we righteous by anything we do? Are we sanctified by anything we do? Or does it all come from God? Is it God that justifies us? Through the righteousness of Christ? Are we sanctified by the indwelling Holy Spirit?

10 COMMANDMENTS ARE TO BE FOLLOWED AND ABIDED BY A FAITHFUL CHRISTIAN, SO IS CHURCH, AND COMMUNION PARTICIPATION.

WHAT DOES JESUS SAY ABOUT PEOPLE WITH FAITH AND THE ONES THAT DO NOT HAVE FAITH. HEARERS AND DOERS OF THE WORD.

John.6
  1. [53] Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
SO THOSE WHO DO NOT PARTICIPATE HAVE NO LIFE IN THEM AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN THEM

  1. [54] Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
THIS VERSE TELLS US ABOUT SALVATION, IT THEY PARTAKE AND ABIDE IN HIS COMMANDS.

  1. [55] For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
  2. [56] He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

RYFT,

FAITH SAVES US , BUT YOU MUST DEFINE WHAT FAITH IN CHRIST MEANS.. LOVE AND ABIDE IN HIS WORDS AND HIS WILL

what does the bible say, Just believe only, then it would be a very small book indeed.

You know what the bible tells you to do as a faithful christian,

since you do not follow Gods commandments, or abide in his love you then become rotten fruit as he tells us. JESUS EXPLAINED what makes a true follower of christ if you are a DOER of the word rather than a HEARER OF THE WORD
.

Sorry friend , I did not write the verses above. I follow them as Christ ask as his disciple.

In Jewish tradition, the minimum standard for all of us is the covenant God made with Noah. Under that covenant humans are to refrain from idolatry, adultery, murder, profaning God's name, injustice, robbery and mistreatment of animals (specifically cutting meat from an animal while it is still alive "with the blood still in it".)

But "Jewish Tradition" is what Jesus actively preached out against, no? :)

He rebuked the Pharisees and Saducees for following their traditions up and above Scripture. Have you ever read as to where this tradition of the "Noahide Covenant" came from?

Have you counted all of the commands in the Torah/Pentateuch?

They don't add up to 613, as some of these 613 are not found in the Books of Moses (such as "Do not eat milk and meat together.").

This is a Rabbinic tradition which has become standard in today's modern Jewish practice. :)

Hello Thadman.

First off Orthodox christians honor and believe in the OT AND the NT . We believe in the Trinity, or the Godhead 3 persons in one.

We as faithful Christians honor and obey the ten commandments of God that Jesus instructed us to do.

Most protestants honor Faith and commandment keeping, its these small sects of assured salvation groups or non-denominationals, that do not apply Gods commandments or church going, etc,.. etc... yet claim they have Faith.

They need to define what Faith in CHrist or God really means. IT to abide in his Laws which were never done away with which are the 10 commandments.

I am honestly curious, about two things:

Do you keep the Sabbath on Saturdays?

Is your Church devoid of images of Jesus that people bow to or icons that people kiss?

Thanks! :)
