  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry I couldn't elaborate. I'm afraid of it opening up a debate for which I probably don't have a stomach at present. A clue I'll drop is the term "Christian ecumenism", as addressed in a section of G.M Davis, PHD book "Antichrist:The Fulfillment of Globalism", which speaks about the globalization of religion and the overall absence of an Orthodox spiritual worldview among Christians of all stripes.
You mean Catholics will just like the film because of Jim Caviezel because he was in Passion of the Christ, a Catholicky flick?

I mean it may cultivate a false sense of multi-denominational unity founded upon yet another shared social cause. Also, it inclines Christians to focus on fighting the evil that's "out there" in the world, because that's easier than crucifying ones own flesh in the Orthodox way. It's unimaginably harder to become as St. Seraphim of Sarov, for instance, and acquire the peace of Christ by which thousands around us would be saved, than it is to go to the movies and be sentimentally inspired and made more aware.

Well, I'm not sure. Abbot Tryphon did a video on this movie the other day and recommended Orthodox Christians help in any way they can, including, however possible, adopting some of these abused children to give them a better life.

I think we can walk and chew gum, so to speak. We cannot change the world merely with politics and voting, but it is part of the equation. I’m heartened to see Muslims fighting back and raiding Cain at school board meetings about this LGBTKGB filth. Catholics have done a lot to overturn Roe v Wade. More than us, frankly. Evangelicals did a great deal to boycott Bud and Target and help get Trump elected. Morality is at stake, and we do need to come together across religious lines politically and socially….but St. Seraphim is absolutely correct and we can still achieve our prayer rule, our devotions, our services, sacred readings, and work on ourselves through the prayers of the Theotokos while loving and working with others.

I'm not sure either. All I know is that I have an uneasiness about certain things going these days, and this is just one of them.

Look. You watch a film and feel good about doing something. The film bolsters the ego of some guy who may be doing good, but seems to have a hero complex. Everyone watching voyeuristically participates in having a hero complex. Most, statistically, will go home and watch men and women be horribly abused on film. They will not change their behavior being complicit in the abuse of these people, but feel good that at least they aren't watching children endure similarly. Neither Tim Ballard nor Jordan Peterson were willing to outright condemn the root of the evil which is causing the %5000 increase in the illicit material... Which is the legal abuse of adults. Why? Complicit.

This is the kind of thought I've been hearing a lot of lately.

I think we fail to see, as a society, the incredible toxic poisoning of America’s soul via pornography. Our world is so pornographic and all our music, TV, film, literature, social media, and internet as well as media have porn permeating the landscape. 50% of male Christians on Sunday are porn-addicted….badly. The hunger for perversion has only heightened the hunger that creates a demand for trafficking. But porn is laughed off half the time in our culture….it’s a reverse icon into hell…

Peterson is not complicit with it; he often calls out this evil. I don't know about Tim Ballard, but I doubt he's complicit either.

In their interview together Peterson describes the causal chain that porn leads into the trafficking of children and then both are like, 'oh, moderation.' Moderation with porn is moderation with the spirit of human trafficking. If people really think human trafficking is so evil, which it is, why 'oh, moderation.' That it's done to adults with 'consent' doesn't change the reality of the abuse done to those people nor does it change the causal chain into greater sadistic perversity.

I'm pretty certain that Jordan Peterson is against porn altogether, judging from the content he's published in other podcasts about it. He condemns it along with masturbation which often accommodates the viewing of it. It doesn't seem likely to me that Peterson meant by "oh, moderation" that the porn enterprise is okay at any level.

Jordan Peterson is awesome. That’s all I have to say. Carry on.
I gotta say, I enjoy when he talks to guys like Jonathan Pageau and Archbishop Robert Barron

You mean like his daughter who adopted the trappings of Marilyn Monroe or what the conspiracy theorists call "Beta Kitten." And then her associations with sex trafficker Andrew Tate... Or with demon-powers pervert Mark Driscoll?

not sure what that has to do with Jordan, and how he treats her.
