The Sopranos, Two Episodes Left

Perhaps the best drama in television history, and one of the best shows is about to come to a close, and I was sad to see no thread on it. It was a pleasure to watch the family grow through dysfunction and violence over the past 6 seasons. The brilliant writing as well as the cast (particularly James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, and Michael Imperioli) made this show great.

Over the past two episodes, the show has taken a somewhat dark turn with Tony killing Christopher as well as A.J. attempting suicide. The way in which Christopher gets killed and the aftermath (where we see Tony casually lie about it to everyone) were brilliant imo. With only two more left, I think we can expect the show to continue on this road with more death of at least one more bigger character (perhaps Paulie Walnuts?)

As to what will happen in the final two episodes, I haven't much of a clue. Signs point to a war with New York, and Tony dying, or perhaps Meadow, the character on the show who arguably Tony loves the most and is the most "pure." Then again, with a show like this, I can also see the New York problem being resolved in the end, and The Soprano family going about business as usual.

Anyone else love this show and have an opinion on whats to happen?

Favorite Scene: Christopher's Intervention..LOL or
Tony and Christopher riding in the car with comfortably numb playing, then the car crash and the subsequent death of Christopher...so shocking.
Favorite Episode: I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano (season one finale)
Favorite Season: Season Two

I too have loved the Sopranos and will miss it a great deal. Last nights episode was great. It exposed how weak and ineffective the family had become and how it couldn't protect itself.

Think of all the strong characters who have been lost over the years who would be useful now - Richie Aprile (crazy, but you'd want him on your side in a fight), Ralphie, Big [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse], even Christopher would be good in this situation.

All Tony has (had) left are Sil, Paulie Walnuts (emphasis on the nuts), Bobby, Patsy and a couple of low level goons. That's a crime family?! Phil was right when he said it was nothing more than an oversized crew.

I'll be counting the hours till next Sunday night and will try to avoid all the spoiler sites so I can really be surprised at the ending.

Eh, in this past episode, Bobby got capped (in one of the best death scenes I've ever scene) and Sil is hospitalized, predicted never to regain consciousness. It was a great setup for the finale.

So Tony is really in a corner. His two top lieutenants are gone, his army is vastly outnumbered, his nemesis cannot be found and to top it off, his psychiatrist has ditched him.

All signs point to his unfortunate demise. Lets hope before he does, however, he takes Phil down with him with his M-16 (i believe) assault rifle. Its gonna be a sad end to the family with all the leaders dead, and Junior, a mentally ill shell of his former self.

The ending wasn't anything special I thought, and a bit too anticlimactic/ambiguous for my taste, after the drama and tension that filled the scene. I'm sure like everyone else, I was cussing after it went blank, then at a loss after the credit rolled.

My ideal ending would have just been the family sitting down for dinner sort of like they had in the last episode of season 1. I would've even preferred Tony getting whacked.

It left some room for ambiguity on whether or not he died, but I personally think he lives. The ending was just a way of saying that life, with all its trials and tribulations, goes on for The Sopranos (this was embodied by the song that was playing at the time...with lyrics such as "Oh, the movie never ends..It goes on and on and on and on" and "Don't stop believing"), but we just don't get to see the rest of it. The tension that filled the scene sort of gives the audience a feeling of what its like to be Tony Soprano.

Alas, a great show comes to a close.

Yes :), there was the immediate thought that HBO went out, then the credits appeared, and "That's it?"

There seem to be two schools of thought. One, the blackness represents Tony's death from an assassins bullet. And two, your view that life is going on now.

I think I'll stick to the second view as well. The scene was a reflection of the tension and anxiety that Tony will face for the rest of his life, always wondering what will happen next.
