Gods are not part of reality? That would explain why they are so elusive.

Why would they reappear?

They were fallen angels, and God dealt with them harshly.

2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

I can, however, understand why atheists would wonder why they don't try it again.
