I think that we need to focus.
1) During the pandemic, the federal government chose to allocate emergency funds to greatly increase the federal Obama subsidies.
2) The federal contribution to state welfare funds for medical care (MEDICAID) has greatly increased over the year.
3) In the Spring, a law was passed to reduce the Obamacare subsidies and the reduce the future federal contribution to the state cost of Medicaid.
4) Democrats opposed both shifts from federal to state responsibility for funding.
NOW, the Democrats refuse to keep the government running which have the effect of continuing to fund the government at level previously approved by Congress. We are the only democracy in the world that shuts down the government when the opposition can mount 41% in opposition,

OBVIOUSLY, the FEDERAL government should continue to pay their share of SNAP. In the meantime, states can certainly step into the breach. This is a diversion for this week. I don't see the shutdown lasting past this weekend. If Democrats refuse to vote to open the government, the filibuster will be gone and the government will reopen and Democrats will HOPE that in a year the voters will blame the Republicans for not funding SNAP for a few days.

DEMOCRATS WILL CONTINUE TO POUT. However, the majority of voters DO INDEED want the federal government to spend less and will accept the states paying a larger share of social welfare costs.
