  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How would they make that happen, and why don't they want to?
Not my area of expertise. What have Republicans ever brought to the table regarding retirement or healthcare other than to cut it.

Was Marco Rubio lying? If so, what are the real numbers?

He provided anecdotal evidence. What are the real numbers is something he should have provided instead of ”trust me”

How do you know he didn't provide real numbers?

What have the Democrats done? As low end working class I had wonderful healthcare, until Obamacare ruined it and I ended up without coverage. If I became a bum, then I would've gotten coverage.

At lest some Democrats have pushed for a Medicare for all type model. Insurance tied to employment is not helping anything. At a minimum, all healthcare insurance needs to be removed from employer benefit packages and put on the open market like auto and home insurance to bring in actual competition on premiums.

Is it a realistic practical workable model? There is a Healthcare Marketplace. But I don't know how it compares to auto and home insurance along those lines.

I would prefer commercial insurance be completely optional with everyone on Medicare. Medicare is already a proven model that can be configured for universal coverage.

My employer recently changed insurance coverage, all my providers went out of network with it and less coverage. My option is to accept and adapt to what is now offered now or look for a new employer and hope their coverage offered is better. I shouldn’t need to consider changing jobs because of healthcare coverage. Employer and healthcare coverage should be two unrelated decisions.

Americans can either have a healthcare system that provides for all people free at the point of service, or a military budget approaching $1,000,000,000,000.

Guess which one we have?

Hmmm - not quite.

The Federal government should:-
1. Have Medicare give universal health cover for life-saving hospital care to all citizens. It's a human right.
2. Buy over half the hospitals so that they are Government Owned and Operated.
3. Create a Federal agency (like Australia's PBS) to buy bulk generic meds and equipment with economies of scale to drive down cost per unit.
These 3 pillars are the only way to cover ALL citizens at HALF the price!
America could save $1 TRILLION a year!

RESULT: Australian citizens go to the doctors more, go earlier, get diagnosed earlier, and treat the condition sooner - which has better outcomes but is also cheaper!

Why can’t we have better retirement and healthcare for everyone? Republicans don’t want to make that happen for anyone.
How would they make that happen,
A single payer health care plan would be the best, most efficient and most cost effective method, and it would cover everyone, but the GOP has always stood firm against that idea. Their idea was proposed by the Heritage Foundation and became the ACA, or what's called Obamacare.

So, if you don't like Obamacare, blame the Heritage Foundation. They came up with it.

and why don't they want to?
Money, dear boy. The for profit health insurance industry generates millions of dollars in profit EVERY YEAR, and a lot of that money goes right to financing GOP reelections.

it is reversing legislation that passed both house and the President signed into law. They can’t get it done legislatively, so they are holding the country hostage trying to force their way.
That's odd. I thought they were using legislative procedure. Is voting against cloture not a valid Senate procedural position?
