Exactly. It is really quite simple. There is a biblical basis for asking a neighbor or friend to pray for you. There is none for praying TO them, or worse, praying to dead saints.

God has placed it in the mind of the Church that the intercession of Saints is true. God has promised to preserve His Church and not lead it astray.

My bad- according to the writer of the epistle of the Hebrews, the "cloud of witnesses encompasses us. " The members of this cloud, mentioned in Chapter 11 and leading into chapter 12, are deceased. The word encompassed means wrapped around like a towel. This cloud (Greek word nephos) is the same 'cloud' that Jesus disappeared into. James tells us that God is near. Stephen looked into heaven and saw Christ sitting at the Right hand of the Father (dexion tou Patros).

When we were children, we believed heaven to be up and away. Today I know heaven to be all around me. If all of heaven knows when a sinne repents, where is heaven? Right before the sinner, praying, hoping.

That's awesome thought James.
But for me to ask those who've gone before,
then I'd need to know (for one thing) that they're indeed saved.
The Bible says strait is the gate, and few find it.
So I'm guessing most miss it. (brainiac that I be)
Much as I dont want to imagine any of my own loved
ones missed it,,,
So now then we have folks asking those who are
dead, and some maybe spiritually dead to pray to
God, when they could be considered praying to the
dead.
I'm wondering why it even says not to pray to the dead.
God had a reason for letting us in on that. He must have
been concerned that we would.
And why would anyone?

Interesting speculation. I assume that you mean that revelation is not confined to the Bible, since we all know that God himself is not. But where would one come up with a theory like that?

I think that is what he meant, at least, I hope that's what he meant.


Regardless, many people do not realize just how dangerous that thinking is. If His Truth is not just found in Scripture then we end up with things like the book of mormon or dictates of rome taking presidence over Gods Word and the public at large being able to say what truth is...what is a post modernist to do?
