Saturday observers miss the point here. Yes it’s true that the Sabbath was not made for
the Jews only. What we are saying is that it was given to the Jews first. The bible states
that the Sabbath was a ‘sign’ of a covenant’ with ‘Israel’ (Exod 31:13-17; Lev 24:8), but
Isaiah tells us that the people of other nations were welcome to ‘take hold’ of God’s
‘covenant’ with Israel (Isai 56:6-7). Hence Jesus could say it was made for ‘man’, meaning
all men to participated in it whether Jew or Gentile.

The word ‘man’ is taken from the Greek word ‘anthropos’ and can mean the entire
humanity and a single male adult person (e.g. ‘a man with a withered hand’ in Mar 3:1). It
also refers to the people under a certain circumstance e.g. ‘a good man out of a good
treasure of his heart brings good things’ Matth 12:35. In this case the word ‘man’ does not
refer to all humans because not all humans have good hearts, but it refers to those
humans who have a good treasure hidden in their hearts.

That is how Jesus is using the word ‘man’ [anthropos] in Mar 2:27. The Sabbath was made
for all those men (‘man’) who according to Isaiah’s call chose to join along with Israel in the
covenant and kept the Sabbath.

When Jesus said, ‘the Sabbath was made for man’ He was addressing the hostile
Pharisaic crowd which was angry at seeing people being healed on a Sabbath. Read Mark
2. The aim of the Sabbath was to enter God’s rest He had entered in Creation. God
wanted all those who partook of it (whoever they were) to experience His rest. The Pharisees had turned it into burden.

So I think the SDAs missed a point here...

Jesus was made to be sin for us.

The sabbath was made for man.

Jesus being made to be sin for us is the hallowed sabbath rest.

As Jesus was made to be sin for us (as he was made sabbath for us) he died and rested in the tomb.

Jesus' resurrection through the spirit of holiness is the other half of the everlasting covenant and the Father's eternal sabbath rest for us in his Son, Jesus our Lord in his everlasting priesthood after the order of Melchisedec.

By death and resurrection our Lord Jesus' dual qualities were made into one new man, thereby making peace and making the new heaven and the new earth in himself, wherein dwells righteousness.

Eph 2:15
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; KJV

I hope you meant that Jesus paid the penalty of sin for us...
ECR,

It is written.

2 Cor 5:18-6:1
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. KJV

This implies that there was a second group. Who is that second group?

ECR,

Jesus did purchase us (from the slave market like Gomer) by his blood.

Acts 20:28-30
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. KJV

2 Peter 2:1-3
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. KJV

There is a powerful movement among christendom to deny that Jesus purchased us.

Eph 1:12-14
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. KJV

The effort to make that text relate to a socalled creation instituted sabbath is evident in the clear word bible. Integrity should matter.
