Meh .. its just a hypothetical model they've adapted from QM gravity research, which was found useful in that specific study domain.

Who cares what they 'believe', also!? I say, demonstrate that its 'the only possible explanation'! (And best of luck to 'em in pursuing that lofty goal!):

I also see that Hameroff & Penrose's Orch-OR (Orchestrated Objective Reduction) model of 'quantum consciousness' (which didn't actually explain anything) has been shown to be unlikely by an experiment showing that the quantum effects proposed in the neuron microtubules are rather implausible (Quantum theory of consciousness put in doubt by underground experiment – Physics World).
