There are many forms of profit sir, not all of which are direct physical money (although just having frequent visitors to a site can do that). Social profit as well as cultural profit provide sorts of power over others, when you know how to use them.

The idea that someone would write a fake brilliant book to get advertising hits on the net before the internet was available is not a rational conclusion. The UB was put in a trust in 1955 which is publically available information. They have a tiny office with a tiny staff of about 5, a volunteer board and a tiny budget for the entire world promoting a book which is free on the internet.

The book speaks for itself.

People have done crap like that in the past (created religions essentially for profit). However, motives aside, I have to raise an eyebrow at you allowing someone else to interpret the bible for you.

Well, ok, but I didn't believe many things in the Bible to begin with, and frankly, the UB doesn't use the Bible a s foundation or comparison, it mentions some of the events, as misunderstood as they were, but it reveals a tremendous amount of new material that is nowhere in the Bible.

Material that comes from...?

Fair enough point, except religious people are just as prone to doing that as those who aren't.
I don't know if that's so, but it would depend on how one defines "religious people". If it's defined as those who acknowledge God's existernce, His over-arching love for humankind, and the obligation for us to love as well, both Himself and our neighbor, then such a person would have a greater motivation in general for refraining from wrong-doing, IMO. OTOH, the church teaches that we continue to struggle with sin throughout our lives no matter what, but that the struggle becomes less to the extent that we've drawn nearer to God. And, from my experience, those I've known who seem to "walk the walk", who by their actions reveal a true desire for closeness to God which has apparently resulted in a deep relationship, are the of gentlest and most compassionate kind. This group would fit a much more narrow definition.

Well yeah, hence my poem. Obviously those that try to follow the general message are going to lean towards better behavior than those who just claim belief alone. However, for every person who betters themselves in response to religion, there is another who becomes worse from it, deciding that spreading the message is more important than actually adhering to it

Ok, then those who are willing to follow authentically can shoot the messenger while embracing his message. :) Some things never change:
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Matt 23:2-4

I find how much the bible covers how people will misuse, misunderstand, and just not believe its teachings impressive.
