According to my understanding the Christian God is perfect – He/It has no needs or wants
That's not what perfection is, even in context of known dictionary definition of perfection. Perfection means that whatever it is, it sits at the highest hierarchy of "functional standard".
So, if we pick a perfect basketball player, we could imagine some player that never misses a shot. It doesn't mean that such player doesn't need or want to play.
