Is it being seriously suggested that it's okay to hide behind women and children and hide weapons in schools or hospitals? Wow.
I never said they were expedable. The problem is if you show that the terrorists can get away with storing weapons with civilians and you do nothing, ALL their weapons will be stored with civilians and ALL their attacks will come for where the most civilians are. It isn't what I would want but I understand the need not to allow an enemy such a tactical advantage. Israel does alert civilians that they are striking the area and gives them time to leave.

Doing nothing is not a viable option for Israel. Neither is killing innocent people. Every innocent Palestinian is precisely as valuable as a member of the IDF or Israeli civilian. I believe that Israel could pursue these terrorists effectively using methods that result in less overall deaths, but risking marginally more IDF lives. "Better them than us" is not an acceptable mantra, "Let's respect and protect every life possible" is. Again, proportionality is a key requirement in a just war, and no Catholic may support an unjust war. Some do, but the cafeteria is a big place.

I know there are some folks who believe that the answer is just to blow them off the face of the earth and we should be thankful that the Israeli government is showing such restraint.

The youtube from Praeger University is well worth the watch. It notes that the reason for the conflict is quite simple--one side wants the other dead. It is not now, and has never been, about peace. The Israelis have given up land and have repeatedly offered peace, but have repeatedly been attacked instead.
Why do you blame Israel for having superior forces, and for Palestinians for hiding behind women and children, like so many terrorists do? If they would just stop, then Israel would stop.
