• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

After smoking since I was 12, I have finally quit!! I tried to quit before but after a day the pangs became so bad I started again.

This time it's different. I heard about a book which had helped a few friends quit, I bought a copy off amazon not really expecting success.

The book is called 'The only way to stop smoking permanently' by Allen Carr, and it works!! I have no need or desire what so ever to go and light a cigarette. I already feel like a happy non-smoker! I am a happy non-smoker!!

I would reccommend this book to anyone, it really has worked for me like no other method has been able to. A total stress free way of quitting!!

And no I don't get commission and I'm not a saleperson, I'm just so excited to have finally found a method that really does work!! Oh and the book cost me £5, which I think is about $10. Best money I've ever spent!

Congragulations! I read the book also with mixed results (it worked for a while and then I forgot and had cravings etc) but I am back on the right track now. Congragulations agian.

Congratulations to you too!!

I'd be lying if I didn't say I'd had a bad day! But a couple of quotes from the book have dragged me back to where I was supposed to be!

Thankyou!!
It is amazing!!! I go to the gym and I can breath! I walk to school, up hill, over the fields and I can breath! I don't stink anymore and I can taste things the way they were meant to be tasted!

It is great to be smoke-free!!

I had quit on 5 Sep 04, just went cold turkey. lasted until about 3 weeks ago and bummer! now a pack every 2 - 3 days. grrrrr! now looking for a way to quit once and for all.

If I could send you the book that helped me, I would. It really does change your whole perception of smoking and makes it easy to stop. It was written by a man who used to chainsmoke, a man who had a nose bleed with every cigarette, a man who's blood was so lacking in oxygen it was thick. It's worth a try! :)

Thank you so much for this information. I am going to try and get it. I have quit for as long as a month but that's it. I would LOVE to have something that would finally work.

Congrautlations to all of you. Any one that the book helps should list it on here often. It is a hard thing to stop for so many.

It would be nice to have everyone on this forum to form a ring/round robin email or whatever and keep intouch and encourage each other.

Sorta like AAA

queenanne if i may ask how does it work. Like what is in the book other stop. and is it a christian book?

I stoped but picked it back up after visting with my sis. She smokes like a pack a day.

I wouldn't say it was a Christian book, but the author is a Christian to my knowledge.

The book makes you understand the nature of the nicotine trap. Why we became addicted in the first place and why we find it so hard to stop. The fear we have of letting go of our crutch and the fear of living without it.

I smoked all the through reading it and by the end I was a non-smoker, smoking a cigarette!

It is a very easy read and makes you understand the whole trap and makes it very easy to stop.

I've quit for 4 weeks now and I have no desire to light up another cigarette. People smoke around me and it does not bother me at all. Two other people I know who have used the book to quit, have been non-smokers now for over a year!

I really want to quit. I just started going back to church in August after having a "rebellious" stage. I feel like everyone looks down on me because I smoke. But I work at a very stressfull job and I don't know how to work there and stop smoking. I sound really pathetic. I should have never started smoking.

update: smoked the last one 13 May '06, went cold turkey again and havent had a smoke since then. first couple days were a bear but I dealt with it. some of the guys at work wanted to have fun and tease me with offers of smokes. I offered to get them fitted with dentures if they persisted in bugging me about it. they dropped the subject..no temptations and havent smoke since 2 Fridays ago. see? a winning and positive attitude always works!;)
