At that point, it appeared to be both. But a delay was allowed, and 2 Pet 3 takes up the question of the delay (unless you have a good reason for thinking the 'coming' was the 1st). The apostles thought the two would be in quick, tight sequence.

Once you unravel that, and allow for a delay in the worldwide judgement, the material makes a lot of sense. Which is why my thread on 'mixing' ("Jun 8-15: discussing either...") is where you should be interacting. It is these same questions, in advanced form.

The apostles did not mix the two events, and there is nothing Judaic that needs to happen for the worldwide day of judgement to occur.

Is the Abomination of Desolation in Matthew 24:15 associated with the time of Jesus's return in the clouds of heaven in great Power and Glory...Yes? or No?
Yes, but only AFTER the Great Tribulation.
