  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like Parachutes too, but ARoBttH grew on me. I think Shiver is my favorite song. Funny you said Spies, that's one of my least favorite, lol.

I also like the tune Moses from their live CD.

The amount of times I see Coldplay referred to as the "new U2" and said to be akin to them are ridiculous. There have even been flame wars on U2 messageboards between people who like Coldplay and people who think they're just a cheap ripoff of U2. Personally, I find those threads rather exciting to read! I definitely feel Coldplay is in the vein of Unforgettable Fire-era U2. As I said in my first post, I related Clocks to The Unforgettable Fire (song). For the record, I consider The Unforgettable Fire (album) to be U2's greatest masterpiece, so Coldplay - and any other band - can imitate that as much as they want!

Daylight is a bloody awesome song. I just thought I'd say that.

They are different in style for the most part (Coldplay and U2). But it is funny, "Parachutes" the album reminds me alot of "Unforgettable Fire". I'm not sure why, I think it is that both albums have a unique structure. UF has the instrumental track #6 "4th of July", and Coldplay have the 30 second "Parachutes", track #8, which doesn't seem to be that significant, but it really does affect the structure of the whole album. Both albums, to me anyway, have a similar vibe. But I don't think Coldplay try to mimic U2 at all, but they derive inspiration from them.
Could be coincidences. But I did find it interesting that Chris Martin loves the UF album and plays it to his child.
