It's nice to see the amount of people who've signed the petition keeps on growing. Hopefully it'll make some sort of difference.

I made the signature in a very lowtech fashion using Paint and text boxes. Heh. I wish I had Paint Shop Pro so I could make something a little more elaborate! Yes, the picture's from the Under A Blood Red Sky video - it's a cropped screenshot I found online of Edge playing the harmonics of 11 O'clock Tick Tock while Bono dances with the girl before the "Call out Your name/Call out in shame" part.

I wish I could get on the ftp.

I'll give you my trick on how to get on, though it can take awhile sometimes.

Add R.T.C to your favorites folder. Once you have done that Download http://www.smartftp.com/ Open FTP click on "Tools" then click on "Settings" then click on "connection" then on connection settings adjust the max retries to -1 unlimited then change time delay to 15 "seconds" ,
then go back to your favorites folder click on properties on the R.T.C icon the click copy, it will then come up with an instant message "URL" detected yes or no? click "yes" then it will try to connect continually it can take up to an hour sometimes but you always Get on. You only have to do all the settings process once, it remembers the site ect.

Well thats what i used to have to do,but it's a slow download @ an average of 5kb which is why i choose the account one @ 20 Kb.

I hope this helps, Good luck. :)

And Axver I'll send and make the Cd's on Monday, because i have a day off from work, thats my organization day.

Alright, that's cool, I'll be greatly looking forward to receiving them. I'll have to give your trick with RTC a try on Friday afternoon (I finish school at 12 on Fridays).

I'll also share with you guys some other signature pictures I've made. I'd put them up tonight, but I simply don't have time. I'm meant to be doing homework right now, heh.

I was a fan of U2 when it wasn't cool - and actually met Dave and Paul when I was in Dublin back in the early 80's. I had some of the coolest Boy and War shirts with the little kid on the front of them!!

Man that was a long time ago...

Saw them play with the Alarm in the UK... and then came back to the states and watched them open up for the Gogo's (egads!).

It's been a wild ride - but I always knew they were destined for greatness..

Oh how I envy you! I wish I'd been alive to have gone to the early shows where they played 11 O'clock Tick Tock twice ... the recordings I have are good, but they sure don't make up for it. Pre-JT U2 was easily the best era in my opinion.

Just got onto RTC! I decided to try the trick seeing I had a little bit of free time, and it's worked! The slow speeds are a pain, but it gives me something to do while I'm eating dinner and doing homework.

Here's some of my signature pictures, all made the Lowtech Paint way!

There's one more I'd like to post, but I can't because of profanity. I'm not even sure if I'd be allowed to link to it, despite this warning ...

Cool pics Axver excelent! My favorite one is the "All you can't live without" one and the Cutting Edge one i like to, you might as well have them all in your sig.

I'm glad RTC worked for you. But i just found my best U2 download spot today, It has Many U2 DVD concerts for download including R&H outtakes, you need to use the "Torrent" program which is really easy to use http://www.monduna.com/bt/faq.html And the site is part of the elevashn network http://www.u2theendoftheworld.co.uk/ heaps of stuff on there, I'm downloading the popmart Johannesburg dvd right now. except that it hogs upload bandwidth.

Here are some Avatars i found on the web that are pretty good.

Wow Janine, some cool avatars there. I particularly like the one from The Sweetest Thing video ... that holds some neat memories for me, and I adore my copy of the single, with the Red Rocks b-sides. Speaking of Red Rocks, I'm currently downloading the audio off RTC, though I'm still trying to get the hang of using an FTP. It's a bit weird for me, I'm not that overly keen on it. I've heard a lot about BitTorrent, nearly all of it good, but I'm not sure if I want to set it up. I'll have to think about it. The bandwidth-hogging turns me off it a little bit.

With my sig pictures ... all of those have appeared in my signature at one point or another, apart from, ironically, your favourite. That's missed out for two reasons;
1. It's large and had I used it, would've churned through my VillagePhotos allowed bandwidth far too quick. I'm now with Photobucket, who offer much better bandwidth.
2. I was cycling through pictures on my old favourite MB but it closed down before I got to that one.
I'd love to include them all in my sig, but I think that'd make it a bit big! I'm currently using my picture as a means of including all the quotes I want, because they wouldn't fit by themselves!

Speaking of my signature pics, here's a challenge for you lot;

Identify PRECISELY where the 'I Will Follow ... U2' and 'The cutting Edge' pics are from. I can do it - indeed, I can tell you within a few seconds where 'The cutting Edge' is from just by looking at it.

I'm seriously considering getting a shirt custom-made, probably with the 'I Will Follow ... U2' picture. Definitely something good from the early days.

Bumpity. Anyone up to my challenge?

I seriously did have something worthwhile to say here ... but I've gone and forgotten it.

Hi Axver, I've been a bit busy today.

Trying to think Um.. is the cutting edge one from the Blood red sky video? seeing that is color.
And i woulden't have a clue where the "i will follow" one is from, you'll have to help me on this one, I'm curious now.

so your getting a custom made shirt? cool!

Gah ... I still can't remember the worthwhile thing I had to say. But looks like my May prediction for the new album was off and it will be later this year. Pleases me, actually, because that gives me more time to save, and I may just be able to go to America for some concerts. That'd be awesomeness. I'm also hopeful for a stadium tour. Who here wants arenas, and who wants stadiums?

You know what I find fascinating? Scrolling through U2 setlists. How sad.

When it comes to the signature pictures, you're right Janine about 'The cutting Edge'. It's from New Year's Day during the second portion of the riff. I'd post the tablature of exactly what part but I think I'm the only person who'd understand! That riff is such fun to play.

'I will follow ... U2' is also from the UABRS video, just the site I was on had some black and white pictures. It's from somewhere in I Will Follow, I think near the start. And no, I did not deliberately make it 'I will follow ... U2' because of that, because I thought it was from 11 O'clock Tick Tock for a long time, but Bono doesn't have the towel over his shoulder, and it just doesn't fit in. Alright, so I'm a UABRS addict ...

And I can't wait to get a shirt made. I might make a couple ... I wish I could do them myself.

Bumpeth.

Sadly, no new news on the album front. Tick tock ... eleven o'clock tick tock ... we're waiting ...

However, I bring tidings of U2 humour that I posted on the Youth forum!

You know you're a U2 fanatic when;

- You feel the perfect size for a lemon is somewhere between 35 and 40 feet.
- You seriously think Mister MacPhisto is a household name.
- Waking up and finding a fly on your radio is not a bad thing.
- You understood the last point.
- You see the word 'pride', you start singing "In the naaaaame of love ..."
- Looking for a particular street simply demands that you play Where The Streets Have No Name really loud.
- Zooropa is an all-purpose word to say at any moment.
- You don't have a TV, you have a ZooTV; you shop at Popmart; all fires are unforgettable; and every person named Joshua has a last name of Tree.
- War is a good thing.
- October is the greatest of the months.
- Your favourite sky colour is blood red.
- A baby shaking a rattle causes you to sing Bullet The Blue Sky or any song from a particular movie about U2 released in 1988.
- Mentioning that it's eleven o'clock is a dangerous thing to do around you.
- Reaching the edge of something makes you instinctively ask for a pen and paper so you can get an autograph.
- You know a non-U2 song not because of its original version but because U2 did a cover of it or Bono sung a snippet live.
- Someone mentions a location and you instantly say "U2 played there!" and know the exact date and setlist.
- Browsing U2 setlists, even ones you've already read, is a favourite hobby of yours.
- Love is blindness and she moves in mysterious ways.

That was funny Axver, so true :D

You know your a U2 fanatic when your have posted the most on the U2 thread ;)

On a more serious note do you know what the fly is about? The lyrics sound like he is singing about end times or something.

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
It's no secret that our world is in darkness tonight.
They say the sun is sometimes eclipsed by the moon

Love, we shine like a
Burning star
We're falling from
The sky... tonight

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
The universe exploding 'cos-a one man's lie.

Just curious. What do you think?

The Fly character was the initial manifestation inspired by C. S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters that led to Mister MacPhisto, and it was expressed through the song.

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
It's no secret that our world is in darkness tonight.
They say the sun is sometimes eclipsed by the moon
I agree, very End Times-y.

Love, we shine like a
Burning star
We're falling from
The sky... tonight
I think this is an obvious reference to Lucifer being thrown out of Heaven. Who's falling with him? The mankind he drags down (hmm ... any relation to Acrobat's "don't let the bast--ds grind you down" ...?).

It's no secret that the stars are falling from the sky
The universe exploding 'cos-a one man's lie.
I've heard some people say the lie referenced here is Judas, and considering the album The Fly appeared on, I'd be inclined to agree ... I mean, we do have UTEOTW, a monologue from Judas to Jesus!

Seems to be a lot of theories about The Fly flying around (no pun intended) - some say it's a man who's been condemned to Hell ... but he likes it there. Others have said it's a man who's been condemned and he's divulging his findings over a 25c phone call (kind of like Screwtape to Wormwood in TSL, I believe). Further others have just said it's religious imagery intertwined with commentary on society today. I think it's a very interesting song, I have no definite opinion formed.
