Lets keep personal posts to PM. please..

Hey, the posts made were within the context of what was being discussed, so thanks for trying to moderate, but seeing as it was from a week ago, I think we're fine here.

wow. My my my......oswald, listen. YOU need to lighten up, pal. I was saying that light-hearted. If you think something like that is said in seriousness on a message board, then you need to get outside more, and enjoy some sunlight and fresh air. I did misread your post, you're correct. But I was also making a statement that I don't think ANY band can do a U2 cover justice. And many have tried. Don't take it as a personal musical taste raping.

As to your trying to school me on being a fan, etc............I am only a year younger than you. I was a fan since the "War" album as well, a solid one, just like you, and yes I was alive when the song came out. Do I remember hearing about it on the news everyday? Honestly, no. I don't. I was too busy at age 9 playing with HotWheels to worry too much about the world climate, but I'd venture to say you weren't too far from it either, so I don't know that you really could've connected with the rage and torment going on in a foreign country much more than I. Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe an 10 year old kid could have given a rip about the world climate 22 years ago.

Now, back to my so carelessly 'venturing out' with my comment. Lighten the F up, bro. It was tongue-in-cheek. You know....a little music elitist fun for someone not keeping it 'old school'. I find it ironic you tell me to lighten up, then proceed to rant on about something that was said so obviously as a joke. Sheesh.

Okay, okay, okay. Good grief! Glad we've got this all cleared up. But, if I would have known it was said in jest, I wouldn't have responded as I did. IMO, the humor wasn't as "obvious" as you think it was. My apologies.

The tongue-in-cheek thing can sometimes be a little too dry, which leads to me telling you to "lighten up", and you responding with, "No! YOU lighten the F up!" Whatever, right?

Anyway, I wasn't making the claim that I "connected with the rage and torment" happening in Ireland back then. I just asked if you remembered it, because I remember it. It was so prevalent that it found it's way from the daily news into a few TV shows I used to watch religiously. Most notably, Magnum P.I. and the A-Team. Or maybe I just watched way too much TV. ^_^

I get it about the whole "music elitist" thing now. It wasn't funny, obviously, but, I get it...

Peace...

Hey it's all good here. Honestly, I posted that when I had just read your post, so alot of what I was typing wasn't with the most level head. I think it was just miscommunication. And besides, we have obviously seen eye to eye on alot of different things around here since this all went down, so I don't think we have it out for each other or anything. Sorry for the tone of that post, it was out of line.

Sure thing, dude. I agree that we see eye-to-eye, and I don't have it out for anyone. Peace to you... :)

And, just so we keep this out of PM territory: U2's the best....uh....long-live Bono...hooray for Ireland!!

What the heck... I'm gonna bump this U2 thread up too.

I got War for $7.50 at Wal-Mart.... It's a great CD. I dont know if I'd say its they're BEST, but its definately worth playing on repeat. What are y'all's thoughts?

It was one of my very favourite albums when I was a kid...but it's sounding really dated now.

I do a community radio show with a friend and played 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and it sounded really weird.

It's definitely a good album, but I listen to The Unforgettable Fire more than any of the other pre-Joshua Tree stuff... :)

I love U2. I was a bit dissapointed with U2 Goes Home:Slane Castle. Bono was extra slimy.

yeah but keep in mind on the DVD ireland had just won the soccer final that afternoon. I know somebody who went the week before, to the concert three days after Bono's dad died and he said that was by far the best U2 concert he had ever been to

Wow. Had to go back 9 pages to find this thread. :p

According to a couple of new books out, Adam is now a Christian, too. I realize not everyone cares about this, but for those of us who are drawn to U2 because of their Christian message, it's great news!

Wow, I'm immensely pleased to see that this thread still exists. You'd think that when I've been absent for something in the order of 16 months, it wouldn't make it.

Well, an update of things. I'm a setlist fanatic and managed to score a position as co-maintainer of U2-Vertigo-Tour.com, which I enjoy thoroughly. Nothing like a good setlist. Speaking of good setlists, have a wild guess what band I saw live. I was at U2's three Boston shows on the first leg of the tour, on 24, 26, and 28 May. 300 section on the 24th, front row in the ellipse on the 26th, and just a couple of metres away inside the ellipse on the ellipse rail beside the ellipse entryway on the 28th. Three of the best nights of my life.

Highlights:
- The Electric Co.: why was this song not played live for 17.5 years?! It may just be the best song of the entire tour, and I think this is definitely the definitive version of the song. Edge is seriously rocking out the solo.
- Gloria: another one where I have to ask, why was this song not played for 15 years? I knew U2 had been playing it sporadically on tour, but my friend who saw the 26 May show didn't, and the look on his face when Larry hit the opening drums was absolutely priceless!
- Out Of Control: it was played for the first time on tour on the 26th, and maybe because of the sign I was waving on the front row! My friend believes this more than me. I was waving a sign for 11 O'clock Tick Tock all show, and my friend believes that U2 couldn't remember 11OTT but decided to play OOC as it's from the same era. I think Bono called for it spontaneously simply because the concert was out of control. The atmosphere was amazing!
- The Fly: I think this may just be the best The Fly's ever sounded, and Edge is actually playing it on an acoustic! Unbelieveable, as I've never heard the song rock this much. It totally blew my mind all three nights.
- Until The End Of The World: the 26th and 28th had two of the four performances of this song on tour. Both nights, it rocked the place out. An amazing live number.
- Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses: it was played for the first time in 12.5 years on the 28th. The following is what went through my mind, and while everything sounds terribly quick on the bootleg, it felt like an eternity to me.

*UTEOTW is grinding to a close*
In my mind: What's coming next? They've already played New Year's Day ...
Bono: This is a song we haven't played-
In my mind: Mercy?! Acrobat?!
Bono: -for ten years, maybe more.
*song is still indistinguishable, but ...*
Me, extremely loudly: WHO'S GONNA RIDE YOUR WILD HORSES!

I then proceeded to tell everyone around me just how long it had been since U2 had done WGRYWH. My girlfriend paid more attention to me than the song, apparently because I was more entertaining and amusing.
- An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart: these two definitely should not have been dropped for 20.5 years. My girlfriend and I had great fun dancing during An Cat Dubh.
- The Ocean: beautiful little number. I still cannot believe it came back after an absence of over 22 years! Only two U2 album songs have been absent longer - Stories For Boys, which was dropped earlier in 1982 than The Ocean, and Shadows And Tall Trees, which was played in 1980 but failed to make the Boy Tour, which commenced in September 1980. Though speaking of Stories For Boys, it was amazing when Bono snippeted it during Vertigo. He's been doing other snippets but I think Stories For Boys is easily the best. There's a place I go ...

And that's just a small selection of the highlights. What amazing concerts! I really hope they continue the tour and come down to Australia and NZ. I'll be at every Kiwi show and whatever Aussie ones I can afford. Hopefully anyway.

Hey long time no see this thread....The Slane Castle dvd is amazing..

I watched that a couple of days ago - love the performances of UTEOTW and Angel Of Harlem.

I can't wait for the Chicago DVD. It'll be so cool to have The Electric Co. and An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart on an official DVD.
