It doesn't matter what statements Galileo might have retracted - if he did; he can't change the facts.
The earth is not the centre of the Universe.
Some people think that we should be - "everything revolves around us. WE are the most important." But the sun is the centre of the universe; the planets revolve around the sun. The sun gives life, light and warmth - if our planet were any further away from the sun, it couldn't sustain life.
Which is an analogy for our spiritual lives; WE are not the centre of our lives, the SON is. John said that there is nothing that exists that was not made by the Son. EVERYTHING was made by, for and through Jesus - he gives life and light to all. We wouldn't exist without him.
As Christians we are to put God, - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - first in our lives. "Seek first the Kingdom of God", the first commandment is that there is no other god besides GOD.
Many people don't let the SON into their lives - they act as though everything revolves around them, that they can please themselves and do what they want. Christians say that our lives revolve around the Son. HE is the most important, we live for, and in, him and we follow his command to be light to the world. Of course, our light comes from Jesus.
