"Come with me in the Twilight for a summer night for a while...
Tell me of a story never ever told in the past..."

I have a feeling you were actually singing these lyrics aloud as you typed this post. ^_^

I

Iron Maiden - I probably don't need to say much more about them given that they're one of the most successful metal bands ever. I picked this video because I was at that concert.

J

Janison Edge - going from well-known to a band I doubt anyone here will have heard of. They have ties to Arena, who I posted a song from earlier, both direct and indirect (it's a complicated family tree), and only ever recorded one album, which is a pity as I thought it was a pretty good one.

K

Karnataka - sticking with female-fronted prog bands, Karnataka have been around for some time, and it seems like they're working on a new album, although it could be a while as they're a band who can't seem to maintain a stable line-up, and as a result do take a while between releases.

I decided to continue on with my list from my itunes songs with 5 stars ranked from most played. I don't think I will skip any in this post, though there is two by one band. However that band (Superchick) is one of my favorites and I own all their albums sans most of their remix albums. I started with their first album and actually got new ones as they came out over the years. The last album came out several years ago the same year they decided to break up.

8. Then You Look at Me by Celine Dion, written by James Horner and Will Jennings
(James Horner is my favorite composer, Celine Dion my favorite singer, and coincidentally this is my favorite Celine Dion song.

9. Turn Loose the Mermaids by Nightwish
I love this song. I was introduced to Nightwish music about 10 years ago on a road trip with my friends and more recently I was introduced to this song by a friend from CF. It’s actually my favorite Nightwish song now. Even though it is quite different than a lot of their other songs.

10. Stand in the Rain by Superchick

11. Like No One Else by the O.C. Supertones. This was my favorite band as a teen after moving beyond 50s and 60s music and onto christian and secular current music. This is my overall favorite song by them.

12. Crawl (Carry Me Through) by Superchick

Part 4! =>

From "Gettysburg OST":
Select tracks from the soundtrack to the 90's Civil War film Gettysburg, to this day pretty much my favorite movie of all time, tied with Babe. :),
___________

From "Kanon":
An anime that seemed to have something of a harem theme (only the girls didn't run around all day every episode yelling about how much they like the male protagonist, if they even did in this one), where this guy moves in with his cousin and her mother for a time in this perpetually snowy town, and befriends a lot of ... peculiar ... girls at his new school, including a girl who claims to be his friend from their much earlier childhood together when he used to live in that same town, but doesn't look a day older than when he last remembers seeing her although she claims to be in high school just like him. I actually kind of liked it. ^_^
Kanon OST 4 Yakusoku
Kanon OST 8 Pure snows
___________

From "Kate Voegele: A Fine Mess (2009)":
This album is from an actress of that TV series "One Tree Hill" named Kate Voegele, I think the second in her breakout music career. She seems like a cool girl, and while I do not have music from any of her other albums, at least in "A Fine Mess" most of her songs are pretty good. So, props to Kate. ^-^

L

Tom Lehrer - I always enjoy good/clever lyrics, and Tom Lehrer does it better than anyone when it comes to satire and humour (with a few nerdy songs thrown in for good measure).

M

Marillion - I guess any song other than Kayleigh could be regarded as obscure, but this one is a bit more obscure as it didn't appear on any of their albums, even though I think it's one of their best songs. I never really got into their later albums as I didn't like the direction they took so much, but their first four albums (when Fish was still with the band) rank amongst my favourites.

N

New Model Army - a band who's sound is bit hard to nail down as they've touched on folk, punk, and even hard rock at times. I suppose it's easiest just to call them a rock band, and a good one at that.

A guy never made the concept of committing mass pigeon murder seem so whimsical. :p

All from my youth.....

That seems to be the most memorable piece of music from Chrono Cross to most folk. Honestly I think it's one of the worse tracks (which is to say it isn't bad by any means, but considering the overall excellence of the entire soundtrack it is only what I would call "good", thus it ranks quite low on the list). Of course, you saw most of my personal favorites from the game at the beginning of this thread. ^_^

Someone told me I should play and record the opening to CC to put up on the Internet .... I said, sure, give me a violin instead of the viola I have and about four more years of study in school, and I am sure I could perform it to a tee.

Part of Tom Lehrer's appeal is that he managed to couple some dark lyrics with happy tunes, which is probably why he managed to get away with some of the things he did that might still raise eyebrows today, let alone in the 50s when her wrote them.

O

Orphan Project - A Christian progressive rock band who released two albums and then seem to have disappeared. This video was recording when they were opening for Stryper, which isn't a bad gig to have managed to get.

P

Pink Floyd - this song features one of rock's all-time great guitar solos, and is the one that I would pick as my favourite. The definitive version is possibly the one from Pulse, but I picked this video as it features the classic line-up and was the last song the band ever performed live.

Q

Queen - I had to include this song as it had such an impact on me the first time I heard it. I thought it was one of the most amazing things ever, and it definitely sowed the seeds for my current musical tastes.

After hearing it, I can imagine trying to do that guitar solo in the arcades at Guitar Hero, if this song were available. ^_^

R

Rush - I own all of Rush's studio albums, so it was really tough picking one song. In the end I went with this one because I think it's one of their best lyrically (which is saying something given the quality of Neil Peart's lyrics).

S

Savatage - another band for whom it was difficult to pick a song, but this was the one that got me into them, so it seemed like the best choice. Criss Oliva is definitely up there amongst underrated guitarists.

T

Threshold - my favourite band. The perfect blend of strong melodies, well-thought out lyrics, and instrumental prowess without showing off.

U

Ultravox - back to the synthpop, although Ultravox did branch out more than other bands did. This song is definitely a pick for one of the best never to have got to number one, especially since it was kept off the top spot by a novelty song (Shaddup You Face).

V

Van Canto - an a capella metal band sounds like an utterly bizarre concept, but it actually works. They've released a number of albums now, and managed to have some decent names in terms of guest appearances, so they're not simply a novelty act.

W

White Heart - my favourite Christian band. I discovered them in the early 90s when somehow they managed to get airplay on mainstream radio, and even came out to South Africa to do a show, although not in Cape Town, so I had no chance of going to see them.
