The Left Behind Series by Tim LaHaye

Reading those books is what got me into Christian web-based messageboards.

I was taking a "Principles of Christianity" class a few years ago. I became friends with the person who sat next to me in class, who was also an adult student. She suggested I pick up the series to read. Then a couple days later I was in Waldenbooks buying a Bible and the cashier said the same thing. So...I got the first 5 books (what was out at the time) and read them and liked them.

I agree with what's been said...the later books have gotten a bit...well...they aren't the same caliber as the early books in the series. But you're just so into the series now, it's hard to stop reading them!

I don't want to sound like a repeater so I will just agree with what has been said about the writing lacking in the middle.

I do love the books though and have read most of them 2 or 3 times usually to keep myself refreshed before the next one comes out.

I liked them, but yeah, ditto on the later ones. I actually stopped reading around the 6th book. Not only was the moral content declining, the storyline and characters began getting a bit convoluted. Easily confused as I am, this was a very bad thing. So, now I have no idea who's dead or what.
btw, anyone read Babylon Rising, Tim Lahaye yet?

I guess I am in the minority here as I think they are a waste of time to read when there are so many other good books out there.

I was totally hooked at first, now I haven't bothered to read the latest. I got turned off when he killed off David and had Chloe be such a selfish twit as to leave her baby (not to mention walking around outside and endangering their hiding place)

Hey I'm just starting them don't give the story away please.

I too have read most of them and have enjoyed them. I really was very blessed by the first three. Reading them taught me things that I had never known. They gave me a hunger to get to know God. They made me think about so many things that I "had" to find a church that would help me learn and grow. Although I had said the sinners prayer many times with ministers and or pastor in person and on TV I never involved my heart in the prayer. in church i was saved and I thank God on a daily basis that he loved me so much that he adopted me into His family.
I still have a long way to go but I'll tell you what I would not trade my walk with The Lord for anything.

No, I have not read them, but I know what they are about and I disagree with their fictional view of eschatology.

The books are amazing. The movies totally SUCK!!! If you really want to enjoy the movies, read the books.

These books are awesome. It did help in answering some of my questions that I had, plus, so far, I think that the story is really good.

I remember when there were only two books out... I didn't think they were all that great then but I've kept reading them all. The quality of writing wasn't the best to begin with, but when they started pumping out two a year, it really got awful, then they went back to one a year and Jerry B. Jenkins (the guy who does most of the writing) started doing his solo projects... and the quality continued to deteriorate. Hometown Legend by Jenkins is very good, a step above the LB series, but still not anything spectacular... I'm currently reading LaHaye's new project, Babylon Rising, and it has been the biggest dissapointment of any book I've ever read. I didn't buy it--my g/f did as an anniversery gift, so I feel forced into reading it.

Basically, if I can't say anything nice, I shouldn't say anything about it, but if you're thinking of reading it, go to the library and get it (that way you won't be out any cash).

I know the books are fiction however I disagree with the author as well..I am reading a book called "the left Behind Deception" by Steve Wohlberg..the book is a critque of the bibical principles in the series..very eye opening and the author says"When it comes to the understanding of god's truth we cannot Be Left Behind!

Another book that is a critique on LB is called End Times Fiction: A biblical consideration of the "Left Behind" theology, by Gary DeMar. I would recommend it. I'll have to look into the left behind deception.
