Because one must know what one is looking at, and through. Unless we know what space is in deep space, we do not know what we are looking through. Unless all that is in it is physical only, again, we don't know what we look through or at! If it contains more than the dimensions we have near earth, then our frame of reference is useless for measuring.

How much time is woven into space along the way to a star? Unless it is an earth style space time fabric, how could we say how long light would take to get here? All we do is say something like..

'if space and time are the same all the way out, THEN, it would take such and such amount of time to get to earth'!

or

'If space far away had just physical materials and laws, THEN they (hydrogen or whatever) we can see would have such and such a meaning..'

Get a grip. The records exist that show lifespans were long. No evidence exists to oppose that. The only evidence man has of the early times is the scriptures. The guy that wrote Genesis was even see recently chatting on a mountain with Jesus. Top that!

I disagree.

One says that the cosmos and everything in it may look old, things like the ToE and its supporting evidence may look true, but in reality my bible is right, I have an eternal, non-material soul, my god exists, and a wonderful afterlife is possible. When evidence and faith conflict, faith is correct.



The other has nothing to lose.

Sumer also records long life spans, and Egypt claimed spirits lived among men. The bible of course is the best kept record on earth. So naturally it is the bar to which all things concerning the far past are measured.
