  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The movie was good. I like Tom Cruise. There were moments but overall I could not get past Cruise in the role. Maybe Cruise is too contemporary or sophisticated to me? It was a little over the top. I didn't think He and the actor playing the last samurai belonged at the Golden Globes or Oscars. The cinematography was beautiful though.

I really liked this movie too. Actually, excluding Return of the King it is the best movie I've seen in a long time (hmm... actually this might even beat RotK)! I'm a bit of a samurai fan to begin with and also fond of Japan, so I really enjoyd it. Especially liked the way Japanese people actually spoke Japanese and Tom Cruise had to learn it. Definately my favourite Tom Cruise film (time to move on from Top Gun ha hah).

i enjoyed it.

enjoyed it so much i saw it twice.

but the second time wasn't nearly as good as the first. above all, i enjoyed the samuri aspect to it -- how they got up each day and did each task to perfection. the fight sequence might have been a bit cliche, granted, but the ending of the scene itself was amazing, poignant.

I enjoyed this movie a lot! The samurai kick major butt! I thought it had a good story and I thought it was interesting how the Emperor of Japan wanted to make the country more "western" while there was a remanent (the samurai) who remembered what their country was built on. Makes for good entertainment:)

My hubby and I both really enjoyed it. I thought the 'love story' was beautifully done, even though it was never really overt or over the top. And Tom Cruise's relationship with the little boy...*sniff sniff* THAT was the stuff that made me cry. Hubby loved the fight scenes, of course. Anyway, very enjoyable movie.
