I just always wonder if it’s best to give human beings that level of trust. But others seem to trust the process 100% and they are 100% certain in the decisions these people made. I’d like to know what made people somfirtsble I’m trusting them. You are unwilling to do that?
Why?
Given that any given Bible is a translation of a translation of a translation, I think that claiming it is the literal word of God would obviously be wrong. I think over 2,000 years and an infinite number of translations, the word of man under the pretense of being from God has absolutely slipped in there.
Ah....so no written references then...thanks.I first learned it from my theology professor in seminary, but it is a reflection of Calvin, Berkhof, Hodge, and Frame's definitions of inspiration.
We have them in the collections of critical texts known as BHS and Nestle-Aland. You can find faithful translations of these texts in the NASB, ESV, and NIV at your local bookstore.
When it comes to scripture and the importance off it I don’t think it’s wise to not confront the hard questions. That is an entirely wrong headed way of looking at scripture.
IMO that is a distortion of what the NT actually teaches.
Ah....so no written references then...thanks.
Do NOT ever take the bible understanding according to a Greek linear viewpoint. It (both testaments) are written from an Hebraic mindset which has an entirely different logic framework.Point taken but it still sounds like the prosperity gospel, honestly. Get married and you're promised happiness? I know for some people, that's just not true.
These are not the manuscripts written by the original authors.
I think the point @mark kennedy established is that the apostles were proclaiming the 'word of God' or 'word of the Lord' and as such like the OT prophets, they were establishing Scriptures. You really have no idea how to get along with people, do you? I never said the gospel was or wasn't anything. I was talking about one verse you don't seem to understand, 2 Tim 3:16. But... I won't bother writing you again and thanks again for providing and non-divisive platform where brothers can come together in unity and share their thoughts without fear that we would divide and cause strife.
This is exactly why I have a hard time figuring out for certain anything. How do you know which definition is "made up" and which one is standard in theology? I assume you lifted your definition from Google or Webster's dictionary. These are not great authorities on definitions of theological terms. The definition I've put forth is not at all unique to me, but is a very standard, orthodox, and historic definition of the doctrine of inspiration.
A noble calling and gifting, but as most charismatic gifts (how Paul describes it) like healing or prophecy, it is rare. That is true, Paul presents celibacy as a noble vocation (as does Jesus), in contrast to Proverb's that seems to think marriage is an unqualified good, regardless of calling.
Why does anybody get to just make up stuff? Regardless of their status.I first learned it from my theology professor in seminary, but it is a reflection of Calvin, Berkhof, Hodge, and Frame's definitions of inspiration.
Yup. Paul seems to think that you should get married only if you're so horny you can't stand it any more (my paraphrase). 1 Corinthians 7:9That is true, Paul presents celibacy as a noble vocation (as does Jesus), in contrast to Proverb's that seems to think marriage is an unqualified good, regardless of calling.

If you try to apply the pagan Aristotelian logic, you will eventually run off the tracks.
Written in the feminine.Yup. Paul seems to think that you should get married only if you're so horny you can't stand it any more (my paraphrase). 1 Corinthians 7:9
