  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Here's a question for ya. I was talking with my friend Mike the other day about an artist I use to listen to quite a bit in High School- Lisa Loeb

He said something along the lines of "You and your sucky indie music"

I had never heard her music referred to as indie before.... what do y'all think

I saw one song of hers on VH1, Pop-Up video, I liked that. Kind of reminded me of Beth Orton.

i've heard other people refer to her as indie before. i'm not sure why, though. perhaps because of her acoustic sound or because she got popular before she was ever signed to a record label. who knows. either way, i really like some of her music (and have since seventh grade..haha).

as far as the belle & sebastian discussion on earlier pages, i mostly agree with jacob-the theory. they've had some really good songs, but they've also had a lot of stuff that's dreadfully boring in my opinion.

Can't say I'm much of a fan either, but their cover of Magnetic Fields' "Take Ecstasy With Me" is pretty great...

that's the problem, though! they don't even make me want to dance, and they're supposed to be "dance punk" (or something along those lines..!). i find bands like les savy fav, liars, and even hot hot heat more fun & dancy than !!!.

though i'll still allow that maybe i just haven't heard the right stuff by them.

I haven't heard anything by !!!, but if they are as danceable as LCD Soundsystem I'll have to check them out (although there are conflicting reports regarding their danceability)

Speaking of dancy music: does anyone else like Gang of Four? I've been listening to Entertainment! alot over the past few days. I heard they were doing a reunion tour or something like that. That would be fun.

Gang of Four are/were great! I presume you like 'Damaged Goods'? All of sudden Bloc Party don't sound so fresh after all (if you ever thought they did)

I think Bloc Party are decent, but I don't pretend that they are the first people to ever do what they did. I don't think there are all that many bands doing anything REALLY different: most albums that come out nowadays are just taking the sound of various artists from '65-'85 and imitating or building on them. Most indie bands today aren't shy about wearing their Gang of Four/New Order/Talking Heads/Joy Division/Television influences on their sleeves. Granted, that's not all bands, but certainly a majority.
