  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's Illinois day, errone. Did you get your copy with the illegal Superman on it? (if you act now, you can get it from Borders, who apparently didn't get the memo).

The edition with the Man of Steel on it is available in the UK. I was looking to bye Michigan first though and my local record store didn't have it. Humph!

-Belle & Sebastian (3rd best band ever after the Smiths and Morrissey solo)

Did you see Morrissey when he was touring last year? I caught him playing in Edinburgh, I enjoyed it but I expected him to be a bit more flamboyant than he was. That said, I thought You are the Quarry was average at best.

yeah! I saw him at Move and at Leeds! it was great that he was doing some Smiths songs too. he was OUTSTANDING at Move! especially in between songs. he grew up around Salford, and Move is at Old Trafford (Lancs cricket ground, stones through from the scum's ground)

I love Don't Make Fun of Daddy's Voice!

you are the quarry was a great album, not one of his best, but then the standards is so high!

i don't know, phil. i'm more than willing to admit that "toxic" was a damn catchy song, and i'm probably willing to call it good, but i think "great" is pushing it.
Eh, you're probably right.

I hereby retract the word "great" and replace it with "good".

Hmm...I don't dislike his solo stuff, but compared to the Smiths it's absolutely no contest, they were greater than the sum of their parts.

Whew. So I'm not crazy.

Well at least not because of your view on YATQ at any rate :p

Last year everyone was raving about You Are The Quarry and I really didn't like it that much. In fact, I thought parts of it were outright boring.

Like I said, average at best. A couple of catchy tunes but not much else in my opinion.

I assume by "their parts" you mean Moz and Marr and are not including Andy Rourke or Mike "Northern leech" Joyce?

While the creative impetus did come from Morrissey and Johnny Marr, the rythm section was just as important to their sound as Marr's guitar and Morrissey's vocals.

-Razorlight (good first album, but I won't be buying anything by them in the future re: Live8)

Wait, why? Just because Borrell doesn't have any extra money to fork over?
I love Razorlight. They were seriously the nicest band I have ever met...including Johnny Borrell. I figured he'd be rude since he comes off so cocky in all the interviews...but he was sooo sweet. Stoned, but sweet.

they were glorified session musicians

lol! and Deano and Boz aren't (they must be the real deal, they've got nicknames!). The Smiths were superior to the solo Morrissey, their respective legacies bear that out.

Grandma's here.;)

I have a seventeen year old granddaughter, and she is always playing me her music, most of which is indie or rock. I used to abhor it, but now really love bands like The Killers, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, Green Day (more punk?), and a few others.

Am I hip? Have I still "got it"? My granddaughter says yes.:D:thumbsup:
