I haven't listened to a lot of new music this year, but a friend recently gave me a copy of Get Lonely by The Mountain Goats. It's great.

The new Joanna Newsom leaked yesterday. Check around OiNK and the usual places... or you can IM me tonight ;)

I'm not a member of OiNK, so it wouldn't let me access anything. I'll IM you later. :)

Is it as good as The Milk-Eyed Mender?

I came here to mention the Hold STeady album -- but it appears I have been beaten to the draw.

I've was a fan of both of the Hold Steady records (and the Lifter Puller material as well), and I think this is some of the strongest songwriting (both lyrically and musically) they have ever done. That's not to downplay the other albums, but I feel like on Boys and Girls In America the hooks are a lot stronger -- the building on "First Night", the dueling vocals on "Chillout Tent", and the background vocals on "Chips Ahoy!", etc.

So yeah, everyone should definitely check it out -- though I realize Craig Finn's delivery can be somewhat polarizing.

Also, the new Starflyer59 album came out and I think it's pretty strong too. Much more stripped-down and upbeat than I'm used to, but good nonetheless. I have them booked to play a show at Gordon College on October 14 -- I don't know if anyone here is from the Boston-ish area -- but if you are, you should come.

The new mewithoutYou is awesome.
I don't know yet if it is the best album of the year... but definitely top five material.

I saw Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond yesterday in Philly. Good show. Though I don't like the theater enviroment for an indie rock show as much as a bar/club enviroment. So the two Sufjan shows I saw last year in Cleveland and Lancaster were both better. But it was fun none the less.

I fell in love with My Brightest Diamond when they (she?) played here with Sufjan. As soon as I'm able to make the trek down to Tower Records, I'm going to buy the album.

Pertaining to mewithoutYou, I have the album downloaded, I just need to unzip it. If I like what I hear, I'll buy it.

The new mewithoutYou is quite good. I'm not sure if I like it more than Catch For Us the Foxes, but I think the new songs are growing on me the more I listen.

Joanna Newsom played a free show last week in Boston at the Museum of Fine Arts. Unfortunately, I was late getting there and the room was full, so I made the trek into the city for nothing. Lame.

I swiped two albums by The Hold Steady from my roommate yesterday. After I go through those, I'm going to check out "Boys and Girls in America". My free time right now is taken up by the new Decemberists album.

Also, I think I'm going to see Bonnie Prince in Louisville the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Yes!
