Nino Rojo and Rejoicing... I prefer Nino Rojo.

I love them both. Cripple Crow, Oh Me Oh My, and Black Babies all have their moments, but I think those two are much better than the rest.

Anyone been reading anything great lately?

Yes. I read Slaughterhouse Five over Winter Break and loved it, so I read Cat's Cradle and Breakfast of Champions this summer and they are brilliant. Vonnegut might be my favorite author.

I also read Demian by Hesse and The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac. I'm reading Steppenwolf right now, and my goal is to read Catch 22 by Heller and The Razor's Edge by Maugham before school starts back up.

Yes! Vonnegut is absolutely brilliant. Those three books (and Sirens of Titan, also) are my favorites of his. I just found out that he put out a book of essays last year called A Man Without A Country. I was a little surprised I had not heard of it before now. I definitely need to pick it up (though, his essays aren't nearly as genius as the characters he creates in his fiction).

Not sure if they were mentioned, but The Danielson Familie (and Danielson solo) is quite a trip. You also got Pedro the Lion, Half-Handed Cloud, The Castanets, and Damien Rice.

Just to name a small few.
they were mentioned (except, maybe Damien Rice), but can always bear repeating.

I'm seeing Danielson on the 23rd and can't wait!
Phil- you should drive over and catch them here in Lancaster,

Anyone into what they term intelligent dance music? I've been listening to a lot of Squarepusher recently.

Yes, lots (thought I despise the term IDM). Squarepusher is brilliant, but there are father vistas than these.

OK WOW check this out:

Allentown Fair announces a ‘fair-fest’ of rock
Six hour show slated for August 31

For Release: Allentown, Pa. - Look out Bonnaroo and Coachella, two of the
largest alternative band music festivals to be staged in the United States!
This year’s Allentown Fair is having its own mini rock festival featuring
four bands in a six-hour show at the fair’s grandstand concert venue
Thursday, August 31.

Alternative rock pioneers The Flaming Lips, the underground duo from Bucks
County Ween, the punk band celebrating its 25th anniversary SonicYouth , and
the newcomer indie band from Great Britain The Magic Numbers will play from
5-11 p.m. Tickets for this concert go on sale to the public on Saturday,
June 24 along with all shows the fair has confirmed by this date.

The Flaming Lips latest release, “At War With the Mystics,” debuted to
critical acclaim at No. 11 on Billboard’s chart in March. The “Lips” have
been around since 1983 with flamboyant stage shows that include lead singer
Wayne Coyne riding around in a big gerbil ball and shooting confetti and fog
into the audience. Coyne and fellow band-mates Steven Drozd and Michael
Irvins are even joined on stage by a troupe of dancing Santa Clauses.

Ween’s roots date back to 1984 when Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo
became acquainted in their 8th grade typing class in New Hope, PA. They
started making music under the aliases of “Gene and Dean Ween,” and have
since produced 13 albums with songs that have been used in movies such as
the “The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood” and “Spongebob
Squarepants.”

The original four members of Sonic Youth formed in 1981 playing what they
have described as “experimental rock music.” Three of the four originals,
guitar and vocalists Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo are joined
by drummer Steve Shelley for a new release due out June 13 to celebrate the
band’s 25th anniversary.

To round out the fair’s eclectic festival, The Magic Numbers have been
described as a contemporary version of the ‘60s Mamas and the Papas and have
been gaining a large following in Great Britain.

Tickets for this show are $39 and include admission to the fair when
purchased in advance of the show date. There will be festival standing room
in front of the stage and reserved seats in the covered grandstand.

For more information call 610-433-7541 or visit the Fair Web site at
www.allentownfairpa.org.

I'll definitely be attending THAT.

Damnation!

This sucks.

the Allentown Fair has three bands that I would love to see live this summer and is only 30 minutes from my house.

but I will be back at school then.

why must the gods mock me so?

yeah, I wanna see The Pussycat Dolls too.
Seriously though... Allentown Fair. Damn.
Hilary Duff is the big thing coming to the town fair here.

Alright guys, Time for a bump and a revival.

To get you started:

The Rapture have finally decided to get off their duffs and record a new album. Excited?

Nope...I've never listened to them.

I'm all about Will Oldham right now.
