I was really that impressed with Oh No Oh My. Neither was I impressed with Tapes N Tapes or You Say Party We Say Die. I think I'm starting to get cynical.

I have been getting into Built to Spill, Super Furry Animals, and Belle and Sebastian lately though. I like what I hear.

If not both, I highly recommend Russian Lullabies. It's a great album -- one of my favorites to come out of the Christian music scene.


I may have to check out Gomez. I probably would shy away from them because of the Dave Matthews connection, but if you recommend it, they can't be all bad.

The only Super Furry Animals I have are Love Kraft and Rings Around the World, and I like both just fine. Is the older material better than these?


Sufjan's The Avalanche is growing on me a little more. I mean, I like it, but I think I'm just read for him to move on to something else. I don't know -- but the more I listen, the more I can here some traces of Enjoy Your Rabbit-esque electronic stuff, which is a good thing. It's not a bad album, but I don't think it's going to be my album of the year or anything.

Is anyone else into Jonathan Richman or the Modern Lovers? I've just started listening to them recently -- which I feel a little guilty about. They're fun, I suppose. Definitely refreshing in between lengthy portions of Stephen Hawking's The Universe in a nutshell on tape, which is really interesting, but I need to take it in moderation.

Oh! I'll have to d/l that when I get home. I've always been mildly into Havalina and always meant to get one of their CDs. I love their sound, it's a wonder that they weren't (aren't?) more popular.

I haven't listened to the Avalanche yet, I have it, I just haven't unZipp---I mean, I haven't...undone...the packaging...

I bought Ships by Danielson the other day. Everyone seemed to be talking about it before its release, but I haven't really heard what anyone thinks of it.

So far, I think the praise is deserved. It has a lot of elements of a really good album. I really like the intricacies and the way that the majority of the songs build. I'm still not completely sold on Brother Danielson's voice, though.

Gnarles Barkley has been my recent obsession. Crazy is an effin' catchy song. Like, I constantly have it stuck in my head.

I love that song, but I probably won't buy the album unless someone changes my mind.

I feel like things have been sort of dead around here lately. Is it just a summer thing or are people losing interest or what? Either way, that should change. Someone give me some recommendations post-haste -- I want some summery music.

Yeah, it has seemed dead. I haven't had the money to buy new music lately, and there haven't been too many albums that I've been gung-ho about buying.

I've already mentioned some of these, and you probably have a good deal of them as it is:

Blinking Lights and Other Revelations -- Eels
"Will You Smile Again for Me" -- ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead
"Surprise Me 44" -- Tuning (I forgot where I got this one...it seems like a mix of The Books, Man Man, and Animal Collective, but a little more poppy)
Use Your Voice -- Mason Jennings (or any of his other albums really. I haven't listened to him in a while, but I think he'll break fairly big within the next year.)

In my capacity as someone who was into them when they first appeared as part of the mid-90s britpop scene I'd say their pre-Rings stuff is superior. Guerilla and Mwng (an album they did in welsh) are their two best efforts imo, tho Radiator is very good too.. I used to have Outspaced with the infamous 'The Man don't give a ****' on it but I seem to have misplaced it.

Surjan Stevens - Greetings from Michigan, class
Yo La Tengo - Heart beating as one, class interesting stuff
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, just ok
Wilco - Being there, got tried of quicky but still good
Bright Eyes - Lifted Or the Story..., class

XO is really good, but I think Either/Or is quite a bit better. Give that Neutral Milk Hotel album some more time, though. It's a real grower.

As great as great can be. I can't decide between Wowee Zowee for Slanted and Enchanted my favourite album.

I read on someone elses post that they considered (The Killers) to be an Indie Band. REgardless, of how mainstreem they have become in the past two years. I love them. I just wish they would come out with a new album.

I can't really pick a favorite. It was Crooked Rain Crooked Rain for a while, but I've really been digging Terror Twilight lately.

As far as the new Thom Yorke record goes, I only listened to it once through, but I didn't think it was so bad. Perhaps not lifechanging or as good as I thought it would be, but certainly not bad. Eh, I need to listen to it a few more times to really form an opinion.


Radiohead was great last night, by the way. They played a different setlist than the one posted on Pitchfork's write up of the first show. Some highlights were The Bends, Kid A, Everything In Its Right Place, National Anthem, Paranoid Android, Climbing Up the Walls, and the new material, which sounded great. They played for a good two hours with two encore sets. All in all, it was a great show. Those of you who managed to get tickets are in for a treat.

I hate music right now.
But that is what usually happens when the annual "summer-just-started-and-I-have-a-crush-i-can't-do-anything-about" thing happens. It's like clockwork.

Hate of music aside, I've been really digging John Zorn lately. I just got John Zorn's Cobra - "Live At The Knitting Factory" and it's amazing.

Not really indie, but should be.
It's 3:00 am and I have no idea what I'm not sleeping right now.
